I find as we go on, the votes are getting more and more definitive/polarized? Like before they were close... this round, not so much xD

I'm shocked I made it this far personally since I've been taking forever to vote trying to imagine the matchup in my head

I'm still doing okay, fingers crossed! My lesson has been not to put so much stock into the newest starters, though. (And also that in some cases other people's taste is a mystery to me - Torchic?!?)

Torchic got a lot of popularity from the anime and games from its evolved form Blazeiken. He's at least on the same level as Greninja and got additional forms in games because of it.

From that gen, I'd bet Torchic was the most popular with Treeko/Sceptile being a close second.

I would always choose Torchic as my stater in that series. I am shocked though about how Pikachu is doing in this round though!

That's interesting! I'm very much an outsider looking in on Pokemon fandom, so it's been fun to try and guess without that kind of awareness. Everyone Torchic's been up against has been so much cuter/better designed to my tastes, so it was wild seeing it kick ass

Torchic is the GOAT though xD It's the cutest starter of that gen, super cute just in general, and evolves into Blaziken who is an absolute badass! And I feel like it's in an early enough generation where most Pokemon fans have heard of it/know what it is... I don't assume that everyone has played the more recent gens, which is why maybe some of the newer starters aren't doing so hot when up against the older ones that most people can recognize.

Pikachu.... I feel like everyone's just sick of Pikachu at this point xD
