I'm never really the moderate person in the room but here goes: I have a fat ass neo bank account. I can buy any item I want really. I decided to hold out on those rare stamps because I like collecting interest in the bank more than dropping 500m. Not every r99 got rereleased in this way, right? So some stamps I DID save up for I get can this new way. Some I can't, still. So I will buy them whenever I want to spend a chunk of my hoarded NP. That's cool! Options are good.
I do like the stuff they did even though it seems hasty like they're saying "fine, here ya go! Plop!" I love the chaos. Neo has been boring and stagnant for way too long. Gotta shake things up a bit one way or another.

I agree, we should accept the loss as warriors. The site hasn't had this many updates in about a decade, it's worth it.

I get both sides of the issue. I revel in the chaos, but I also had Sticky Snowflake Stamp go from the most valuable item I owned by far, to suddenly being buyable, so that definitely stung, especially because the other stamps in that album went up. I do wish I hadn't waited to album it because I def would have cared less because it wouldn't have felt like an "in case of xyz" liquidable asset.
I get the appeal of wanting to save up and earn stuff, but for the past couple of years, prices have increased faster than I (and a lot of people) can save. Several of my major purchases have been from people honoring old values in an effort to combat the wild inflation, but other items seem perpetually out of reach no matter how much I continue to save.
I think it's a really difficult situation to figure out how to rebalance because, like in real life, the wealthy on neopets seem exponentially wealthier, but the further way you are, the more it blends together, and it's hard to figure out what works, I guess? Like the vast majority of Neopets players have probably never had an item worth over 100m, then as you go on some have had maybe a couple items worth that much, and then even fewer have had several, and so on. The stuff the benefits the vast majority of players has risk of hitting those players in the middle, while having less impact on the players at the very top. I guess this is comparable to having diversified assets? idk. I'm by no means arguing for neopets communism or anything, just recognzing that TNT isn't in the easiest spot to figure out how to distribute this shit, and I'm glad they're at least trying.

They way I'm looking at the wild item releases is like a lot of you guys. Energy on the site is a great thing, even if it means my SDB value just fell off a cliff. Because you know what else would make my SDB value fall off a cliff? Active user count continuing to dwindle and the site continuing to die by inches until there's not even enough life in the place to have an economy.
I do think releasing mass batches of super valuable collectible items that have no utility other than being cool, rare collectibles is not the best move to make. Part of Neo's charm is hunting down those elusive things to make a badass collection of something. Releasing them in much smaller numbers so some are back in circulation, for sure. I thought it was awesome when that one Haunted Woods stamp was released as a prize in a small number. Tossing a 150M album item into a trick or treat bag? Ehhhh maybe could have eased up on the gas a little for that one. Release it but in a quantity that preserves a measure of rarity so it's still a challenge to attain--but is actually attainable.
Paint brushes, morphing potions, obscene amounts of FFQs? Fuck yeah rain those from the sky. They're one and done items so they'll always have desirability, but the current inflation making it so hard for casual players to attain a converted pet color they like on a pet website is painful to see.
