Things your parents taught you that changed your life...

I saw a post like this on Facebook.

It was things your parents taught you...
That either changed your life, changed the way you viewed something and or changed the way you did something.

    Parents, Gaurdian, teacher etc.

When I was younger my dad told me when you Scramble eggs you have to keep scraping the pan or the eggs would burn. So I would always hate making eggs because I would obsessively stir the eggs fearing they would burn.

Later in life I realized how they cooked in the pan and you do have to stir/scrape but it's not frantic as I used too cook as a child.

I'll try to see if I can find the post and provide more examples but feel free to share yours ahahahah.

To use a flat surface to crack an egg, not the edge of the pan, haha!

I've always used the edge is it better or worse to use something flat. I imagine worse... but this thread could be used both positively and negatively x)

For me personally, every time I tried to crack an egg on the edge (uneven pressure), I would always end up with a messier break and a million tiny eggshell pieces in my dish! When you crack an egg on a flat surface, it kind of creates a cleaner break, reducing the chances of shell pieces. It changed my whole world!! I don't think I've had any tiny pieces in my damn eggs ever since xD and now I look like a total cooking pro too. 🍳

My parents always told me as a child that it was illegal to have a light on in the car while driving at night.

So now as an adult, I have the lights of my radio/dashboard as low as it'll go for fear that (even though I know they were lying to me), I'll somehow be arrested and thrown in jail.

    Thank you Hellraid <3

Punctuality. If you arrive exactly on time you're late. Always be a little early
Makes me so annoyed at late people now especially as a manager lol

"When you're going through a hard time, cope with it by keeping yourself busy."

Unfortunately that translated to "cope with it by working". I ended up having too much on my plate which led to burnout.

Now I cope through rest. I have a couple hobbies that I love, but I don't feel bad for not doing anything productive like I used to

I went through an academy for law enforcement and they teach you this same principle. If your on time your late. If you're 15 minutes early your on time. If your earlier than 15 your early.

My dad always told me growing up "Outside of this house, your teacher is the equivalent of me. You treat your teacher like you treat me at home" which meant with respect and obedience. My dad was fairly strict with me and my siblings growing up so I took my "job" at school very seriously. I learned to really respect authority and got super pissed when kids would pop off in class all my life in public school. It helped to keep myself accountable as well and never blame a teacher for my lack of progress in a class or something. I got along great with my teachers because of this I think.
