I think it's the "we are hoping to get rid of the lookup pages" rather than "we are hoping to get rid of the captchas"

Oh, that's cool. I can browse existing pets far more easily without having to run the availability checker for name-lurking.
(Those captchas always took forever, anyways, especially the "click until there's no longer a picture of X" ones.)

And yeah, honestly? More ways to support the site would be wonderful. Hmmmmmmmm...

Captchas only happen on lookups...so it's reasonable to assume that's what she meant

Its on pet lookups as well - which is just as much of a pain

I believe there were a lot of cookie grabbers added to user lookups. Could be wrong.

Cookie grabbers are just something people blame so that they have some semblance of what’s going on. Realistically, (onsite) cookie grabbers haven’t been used too often for... yearssssss now. Like 5+ years probably. Even then, it was isolated to a very small group of people because having an on-site CGer wasn’t something you wanted a bunch of people to find and use.

The real reason captchas are there can likely be traced back to massive userlookup scans being conducted in order to identify desirable accounts. That likely caused a strain on Thur servers because I have a feeling they aren’t all that impressive.





also — you guys are reading into the wording too much. Everybody should read that as they are getting rid of userlookup caprchas, not user lookups.
