I think that if you press the "donate" button the items will go to the money tree. and if you use the machine, it will count towards CC's avatar. Both options give points.

According to JN the "Donate" button donates to CC, so you don't have to go through that ghastly fucking page every 10 seconds.

Quick Donating
Returning in 2020 is the "Quick Donation" page, which allows you to check off 1-15 items in your inventory and instantly donate them�vastly speeding up the donation process.

Clicking the red "Donate" button will instantly donate the items, whereas "Take to Recycling Machine" will take you to the Charity Corner hub where you can click the lever and watch the donation animation (which is not necessary and slows you down).

Got mixed feelings. Glad I didnt waste any points but sad that I missed the window to sell the stamp at a high rate

i've still got 1500+ items in my inventory to clear out, but I've just reached 5000 points and I doubt I'm going to make it to 10k for the trophy, if that's the value needed for gold :')
I've gotten rid of everything that isn't of sentimental value/event keepsakes. Really should have stayed on the ball with my dailies but given how this CC is maybe it was for the best lol

Edit: on the plus side I rediscovered some items of value i had in addition to the fact that i had an expensive paint brush just LYING AROUND...
