There have definitely been times when I've been embarrassed that I play Neo, or where other people have tried to make me feel bad about it. But honestly, I usually just end up telling them that it's just like any other online game or video game that people spend their time on. People will say "Oh my god! You spent that much on Premium for Neopets?!"
But then I just remind them that they've probably spent over $1000 on video games and they get the point pretty quickly.

I lied to the cashier while buying a NC card. She asked me if I still play this game, but in a curious way. I tell her that my little brother plays it. No other cashier ever asked.
But students at my uni don't seem to be ashamed about playing Neo. They report seeing people play it in class and they posted stuff about it on a university FB group.
