See, that's a Hanukkah icon I'm familiar with, but I've been concerned that drawing something like that might be construed as either insensitive, oblivious or just plain lazy. Like I did a keyword search for "Hanukkah" and drew the first result without giving any thought to it.

Hanukkah isn't really about the presents, it's about the oil that burned for 8 days, so that's why the oily fried foods are so relevant.

I actually took a bit of a crash course in the story and practice of Hanukkah a year or so ago when @(you need an account to see links) proposed a Hanukkah themed Ryugotchi scene to go along with the Christmas scene I released. The banquet that I ended up drawing struck me as a significant event for the holiday, but I can't help wondering if that was the most significant bit of ceremony that I could've portrayed without coming off as tasteless or insensitive. The last thing that I want to do is diminish someone's holiday, but I really did mull over animating a scene of latkes getting chowed based on the suggestion you made earlier last week. I feel like I'm stuck for ideas.

You could make it simple with a Menora lit with some candles. I think that would be kinda cool with a window backdrop.

This is just my personal feeling, but Hanukkah isn't really that important of a holiday compared to the others, it's just the one that's roughly around one of the biggest christian holidays so they decided "lets exchange presents for this too so jewish kids don't feel left out" lol. So a menorah or dreidel or latkes would be just as good as a christmas tree snow motif really. And it's not like a super spiritually important holiday that you would be disrespecting (in my estimation anyway).

yes, the ryu scene is good, i have it on my stack now. nobody could possibly complain about a latke. i mean, they're vegan and gluten free. everyone can eat them.
