I have 0 problem throwing most things out and being pretty minimal with belongings but I cannot seem to bring myself to get rid of these damn Yugioh cards.
They have a lot of sentimental value to me even though I haven't played it in years nor do I plan to play again.
How do you get rid of sentimental things with no use instead of just dragging them around with you throughout life?

First thought- I'm not sure how many cards you have, but if they don't take up a lot of space to keep and they remind you of good times, is it so bad to keep them?
Second thought- I like finding people who like the items as much as I do, or possibly even more. That way I can give them up knowing they'll be enjoyed after me

I finally consolidated all my cards today so it's just a small tote full now.
It wouldn't be soo bad to keep them, currently deciding on if I should just keep or get rid of them
That is a excellent thought! The thought of selling them seems like a lot of work so giving them away is a great idea.
Let someone else make some nice memories with them too

you send them to me
honest answer: I like to take photos of things that are sentimental before throwing them out, that way I always have a hard copy of the memories. That said, I let my parents throw out a moving box full of trading cards a few years ago (for various bad reasons, I really wanted to keep them.) I think about those cards daily...so sometimes it's not the best answer to get rid of them

I did the same thing with my own card collection recently- even though they remind me of my childhood, I knew that having them sit up on my closet shelf collecting dust wasn't doing them any good and that there were other people who would cherish them more. And the good thing about cards, is that you can pick out of a few of your favorites to keep for yourself! I managed to pick out maybe 15 out of hundreds to keep. Figure out which you have the most memories tied to and start from there. And to counter that, maybe there's some that you wouldn't even remember having if you didn't look at them for months, or years? A lot of my cards I didn't even remember owning. Would it make that much of a difference in your life if you didn't have some of the cards that just aren't as memorable?
And of course watching Marie Kondo's Netflix series helps, too haha!

I definitely just pack them in a smaller box and put them in my parents' storage shed. They're there! Just out of sight.
(I know I'll always love them. Some things I'm able to not be attached to anymore - after several years or so - but some things just hit too deep.)

I'm so sorry they threw out your cards that's the worst way to part with something. That's my fear is that I'll miss them and regret it even though they don't cross my mind terribly often
@(you need an account to see links) That's a great idea! I already have a small binder of rare/valuable cards so I could just make another with cards I love. Most are just very common/uncommon cards anyways
YES, gonna go watch that. Need some more motivation to do a clear out :p

Some of them are quite valuable much like pokemon cards... might want to try selling them.
Seeing them as a source of revenue might encourage you to part with them x).

When it is small trinkets/cards that I have great attachment to despite not using for years, I find someone who is just getting started in the interest (ex: card or tabletop games) or give to young family members who may enjoy displaying them more than I do now. I've been able to give a lot of well-loved trinkets and toys to my nephews this way, and they still love them to this day!

I'm hugely sentimental and really struggle with getting rid of things. I have storage bins of so much shit at my parents' house and I just can barely bring myself to part with things. Especially if the thing is associated with a specific time or place. For things like trading cards, it hits the crafter in me and I can't help but think about how cool they'd be for a project I will totally do some day...
