not specific to christmas eve/day, but when i was 8 or 9 we found an aluminum tree at a garage sale and i fell in love with it. we got a color wheel to go with it too, and at night i thought it was the prettiest thing.
when i was older i started putting it up myself. i would decorate it in all pink, with a pastel quilted skirt. i have a polaroid of it somewhere, but i have no idea where.
unfortunately, at some point, it was donated to a thrift store without my knowledge, and replaced with a standard newer white tree. it just wasn't the same
anyway, here's a picture of the aluminum tree from when we first set it up:

Not her finest moment of gift hiding, I guess 😂

But I think one of my standout Christmas memories that is especially Neopets relevant - one year we had stockings as well as the usual gift fare and my mom (because let's be real it sure as fuck wasn't my dad waltzing into Limited Too to buy these LOL) gifted my older sibling and I a couple different Neopets items! Like a (now, very classic and retro) Neopets logo tee, mini plush kacheek keychain, and a blue noil plushie among some other things. I still have the blue noil and (disgustingly dirty) kacheek keychain perched on my shelf right now. 😊 We have long since stopped doing gift exchanges (much to my relief because I'm a terrible gift giver lol) but I'm always so thankful that I got to experience a lot of the "Christmas magic" while I was younger.
I was mad at my brother one year because he was like "hey! Mom is wrapping presents in her room! When she goes to the kitchen, let's sneak and see what she's got!" we did that and got caught lmao so my mom said she was going to return them since we spoiled it and I was so mad because I saw there was a bunch of pokemon stuff lol.

Thanks for sharing that memory! I remember only ever going to Limited Too as a lil kid to look for the Neopets stuff so I know exactly what stuff you're talking about haha.

And guess what we are having out first white Christmas!!!

I'm so pumped right now. It's barely sticking but it's snow on Christmas!!!!! I've wanted this since I was a kid!!!

I'm from California and I totally feel you on this!!! I was always so jealous watching cartoons and movies where it's snowy in December. I've never experienced that myself in California unless I went up to the Sierra 😭 I'm so jealous of you lol

My favorite Christmas memory is a simple one but I remember it so vividly. I was in 4th grade, I unwrapped a DVD of Shrek 2 and $20 (this was in 2004 so wayyy before inflation). I watched Shrek 2 and then I logged in to play Neopets.

The most chaotic and memorable Christmas would have to be last year when my family visited San Francisco for a week and we were supposed to fly back Christmas morning. We were at the airport at 4am and our flight was one of the many cancelled ones. The earliest next flight out we could get was Dec 26 at 6am. We were unsure we could catch an Uber that early in the morning during the holidays, so we spent the night at the airport instead of getting a hotel. I couldn't sleep because it was bright and noisy. My family spend an entire day and night at the airport on Christmas.

OMG!!! My grandma and grandpa on my mom's side had a silver aluminum tree and a 4 color wheel and that's where I gained my infatuation with not green christmas trees... shiny trees!!!! And where I gained my love of colors everywhere for christmas. I just can't do white lights!!!

Yes! I knew it was a bad idea before the trip when my parents said the plan was to fly back early Christmas morning and have us all sleep on the plane. My mom says she's going to avoid flights in the month of December now! And we definitely got a lot of family bonding in.

they were really popular for a short period of time around the 1960's, so they're very mid century modern
my mom's first was from the aluminum factory that her dad worked at!
fun fact: the charlie brown christmas special almost single-handedly killed the aluminum tree trend, because in it the trees were portrayed as shallow and, like, ~not in the true spirit of christmas~

We used to do big seafood dinners every Christmas, until my grandfather died. Wonderful memories of those times, but now we are pretty scattered and don’t get to do big things like that anymore. But a great time while they were happening.
