And yes I’ll be that person but so far the best addition to this thread has been @(you need an account to see links) posting The Used. Dita #GetsIt. True early-mid 2000s emos know what’s up. Everything else so far here does not compare or come close to the immaculate vibe that certain bands had. Like, I can’t describe it. The “newer” emo shit (aka pretty much anything after… 2009ish)? That’s not even close to what emo is at the core. There was nothing better than the period of time that was 2002-2008. N o t h i n g.

Yoooooooo my queen AFI silver and cold and sing the sorrow bringing me back omg 😭 I love how even my elementary teachers when they saw me after going to middle school they were like "Omg she's gone goth!". They thought it was a temporary thing but I'm still listening to my emo music to this day my wardrobe practically all black!
I couldn't find that cd of The Used in stores and literally ripped my own copy because I loved the music. HIM was my ultimate love though. Ville Valo poster all over my walls while I was covered head to toe in HIM merch. The Used and My Chemical Romance my second favorites! Ugh I miss that time. I still miss Story of the Year back in the day. They don't sound the same now and I miss Mayday Parade. I still never listen past their first album :c

The SCENE QUEENS of MySpace. I will not hear otherwise about this take. This is the “less produced”, OG MySpace version, which trumps the music video/EP recording. I said what I said.


I miss this era of BC so, SO badly. Hello Fascination was a great album too, don’t get me wrong. But It’s Classy, Not Classic? Truly iconic.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for scene culture. God, I miss it. The argument that was the difference between emo and scene culture… good times. Lots of overlap because usually if you liked scene music, you liked emo and vice versa. From my experience, it was girls that were more into scene and had the scene appearance and it was the guys who were more into the emo scene and appearance. And yes, the scene girl almost always had the emo boyfriend.

I was the opposite. I was the emo girl, with a scene boyfriend. I wish I could post the old photos I have of him but they’re sooo cringey 😂
