    It's Summertime!

    It's finally summer time!
(at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere!)

    So, I want to know...

What is your favourite thing to do in the summer? Are you a total beach bum? Lake lifer? How do you like to stay cool? Popsicles, ice cream, good old fashioned AC?
Maybe you have a favourite memory from the summer time? I wanna hear about it!

    I will go first!

As a kid, we would always go to the outdoor waterslide park in June at the end of the school year. We would stay all day until we were EXHAUSTED. There was this one slide that was super scary to me, it was really fast, had big drops and was in pitch black. I remember the year I turned 12, I was FINALLY brave enough to go down it by myself. So I did, and it was a blast! Once it was time to leave, we'd get a twist (chocolate and vanilla swirled) soft serve ice cream cone.

It's interesting what you say about fireworks and risk of fire. Here fireworks are started to be looked frown upon, but because of their loud noise that might trigger people with PTSD

So years ago, Fanta had released a salt watermelon flavor to Japan, and I just had to ask if anyone ever tried it. It was a limited edition summer flavor, because the salt and watermelon was actually supposed to hydrate you?

I eat salt on my watermelon now, but I always wondered what that elusive soda tasted like?

Also do you guys have any like specific summer food traditions? My dad always makes corn in the summer, like every other weekend. He'll shuck them himself and soak it in sugar water! I always know it's summer because he says the corn taste best for some reason

Salt on watermelon is SUCH an underrated combo. It's so so so so good. If you have high blood pressure, it's probably the not best thing to do lol.

The salty watermelon fanta tasted quite good! Now I don't think it really hydrated me any more than other run of the mill bottled drinks. BUT - it tasted good and hit that craving I was having for something sweet.

My grandma always salted her watermelon! We also salt cantaloupe.

It's definitely not specific to me, but summer always always means cooking as much as we can on the grill, and eating outdoors. Hot dogs taste better when you're eating outside.

Ooo I've never salted cantaloupe, is it tasty?

Yes! MY dad loves to cook so he often fires up the smoker and makes burnt ends. Honestly it is nice to eat like freshly grilled or cooked foods with people outside.

Salting watermelon and tomato and eating it right there in the garden is basically a core memory for me. My grandparents did both so I was introduced to doing it at a young age and I still do it to this day.

God, I LOVE grilling! Are hot dogs your favourite bbq food?
I’m not particularly a fan of eating outside only because of the bugs & the wind blows around napkins &paper plates. But it’s nice nonetheless.

I lovvvvvveeeeeeee grilling and smoking foods! I'm hoping to get some good cuts of meats for this weekend. One of my favorite things is to smoke a brisket for 24 hours so it turns into a nice melt in your mouth meat.

Eating outside is a love and hate thing for me. I *do* enjoy the change in scenery when I eat but the wind, bugs, heat, other people, etc just don't jive with my inner self.

@(you need an account to see links) oh!!! If you’re comfortable I’d love to see your brisket next time you make it! I’ve been looking into smokers for some time but never committed to the purchase. Do you smoke directly on your bbq or do you have a separate smoker?
