Ryus just refreshed and its now unlocked!?
Could it be posting related? In terms of Ryu's today I've fed/scooped poop for my own, and a few others (maybe 3-4 tops) but haven't touched the list/done anything significant.

They absolutely can! When it's time for your Ryu to evolve, if you do not advance in your current evolutionary line, you will move sideways and start on a new branch (either the kitty or the chameleon)! I believe it has to do with luck. You can raise your luck taking care of your own and others Ryus, and it will increase your change of evolving forward on your current branch, but doesn't guarantee it. Which at that point means you'd hop sideways to a new branch! I believe that's how it works at least.

Digging for some quotes from Bat:

Branching to different evolution groups can happen if you weren't lucky enough to evolve to a second evolution, or if you've evolved to the maximum evolutions in a group!

So long as you're evolving upwards - you'll stick to a given branch. If you're not lucky enough to evolve upwards at the first phase of a Ryugotchi's branch, then there's a chance that you'll evolve sideways instead, which results in jumping to a separate branch.

Which rereading these now has me wondering, the "if you've evolved to the maximum evolutions in a group".
Does this mean those of us who have reached the end of the line will move sideways to a new branch? Eventually we will have all acquired all of the Ryus possible. Will we rotate infinitely or once we've had them all unlocked be able to pick a stopping point maybe?

Just woke up from a nap and saw I had the new lava background. No idea what triggered it. I took care of only a couple ryus I saw on threads I snooped

This happened to me today as well I don't know what triggered it! I was also taking care of some other peoples Ryu's that I saw on posted boards
