    It's Summertime!

    It's finally summer time!
(at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere!)

    So, I want to know...

What is your favourite thing to do in the summer? Are you a total beach bum? Lake lifer? How do you like to stay cool? Popsicles, ice cream, good old fashioned AC?
Maybe you have a favourite memory from the summer time? I wanna hear about it!

    I will go first!

As a kid, we would always go to the outdoor waterslide park in June at the end of the school year. We would stay all day until we were EXHAUSTED. There was this one slide that was super scary to me, it was really fast, had big drops and was in pitch black. I remember the year I turned 12, I was FINALLY brave enough to go down it by myself. So I did, and it was a blast! Once it was time to leave, we'd get a twist (chocolate and vanilla swirled) soft serve ice cream cone.

This section is for discussion of miscellaneous topics that do not fit into another site section. If another section (like Help, Neopets Chat, Movies/TV, Debate Zone etc.) suits your intended topic better, please post it there instead. The key word here is "discussion"- if it is not a topic that will generate meaningful discussion, it will be moved to SPAM. Posting a meme, for example, belongs in the SPAM section.

    2) All posts in this section must be a minimum of 1 sentence long, and need to include an explanation of why. For example: "My favourite breed of dog is dachshund, because they have such adorably silly little body shapes and are very affectionate."

@(you need an account to see links) yes some people have gotten wet towels and have put them over their fans to help bring in some cool air, haven't tried putting them on me but that's a shout xD I ended up investing in a small air cooler but it' still blowing hot air xD

oh dang how'd I miss the toad talk in the thread?? I love toads so much. I found one in my front yard last night in the mulch and brought it a bowl of my gross fish tank water in case it wanted a swim. There's a creek out behind my fence and when it gets hot out toads seem to head for it frequently enough that I start seeing them in the neighborhood roads a lot, even when it's dry out like it is now. I always get out of my car and move them to a safe side so they don't get smushed.

We used to get tons of bullfrogs around my dad's house as well but sadly they've waned in recent years. Nothing as bad as the horny toads though. I remember seeing them commonly as a very young kid and I haven't seen one in probably twenty years at this point :') they're such awesome little creatures, what else has a defense mechanism as metal as shooting blood from your eyes??

Saskatoon berries I find are hard to explain. They are a little more reddish purple and a bit smaller than a blueberry and grow in mine and Cinnas climate. I used to pick them by the bucket loads as a kid. They make great jams and pies!

    I love a good hot day during the summer, heck I love it when it hits 30°C but anything more than that here is a nooooo nooooooo!!! It's like the heat here is different to hot countries, I can't explain it. Also our homes are built to insulate heat ;u;

Canadians have the same problem. Like, our houses have central heating via furnaces. Some people have central AC but most of us don’t. Portable AC units for the win! It’s 33C here currently and I’m dying

Just getting back from playing basketball at a local park here. It's like 35 degrees Celsius (95 F) and I'm completely wiped out. Sadly not enough people to play a full game but we managed to get a few runs of 21 in.

Extremely hot as I felt like I was a zombie by the third game and that I was also melting on the court... On the plus side, having the sun out was really nice! Definitely makes for a good workout.

Of course, I made sure to bring some Costco-brand Gatorade and a thermos of water. Remember to stay hydrated if you live somewhere where it's this hot and you're outside for a while!

Even if I had a portable AC or sth I wouldn't dare to use it with current energy prices...
@(you need an account to see links) Yeah apparently esp. when you cool the spots at your wrist and ankles your whole body cools down for some reason?? Not sure if it's placebo or actual science but it works for me, haha.

Are toad fences a common thing where you live? We do have those in spring a lot (mating season I think?) and they're basically just fabric or plastic fences, rather low, but high enough for them not to jump over. And then volunteers walk around with buckets and whatnot, pick them up on one side of the street and put them back down on the other so they can safely cross.
I'm pretty afraid of toads and frogs - it's gotten better over the years and I am not exactly sure how, why and when it started, but I'm super glad people do these things over here, because I really don't want to smush them ofc. It's like with bugs and insects for me. I don't want them dead or anything, and I appreciate what they do for the ecosystem.
I just... don't want them near me, either. :'D

As kids, we loved hanging around the frog ponds. We also always carried the frog eggs that were laid in...'non-permanent waters' to the ponds and stuff.

Absolutely impressed. I can barely walk to my car in this heat w/o feeling like I'm an amorphus blob, I cannot imagine doing sports!
Sounds like a really great time though!

I feel so guilty with everyone talking about how hot they've been and where I'm at it's been max 80°f but usually closer to 70°. Meanwhile the news is talking about historic heat everywhere. Really hoping I can get through this covid so I can go out and start enjoying it though. I don't love summer but spending it all indoors at a computer probably isn't doing me any favors.
I wish Ooblets would hurry up and come out on Switch so I at least have something to hyperfocus on that isn't on a computer.

I went out for a bike ride to play Pokémon Go during the spotlight hour today thinking that 6PM meant it would cool down relatively soonish and... I was wrong. I was incredibly wrong. Please, if you're out at all lately have water and sunscreen on you, or failing that be somewhere that you can duck inside for a few minutes to cool down.

Next week and also during the community day I am very much considering just going to the mall and playing while indoors there because I absolutely refuse to die in this heat.

Please don't hurt yourself for Pokemon!! Malls usually have stops in them I think and you can get a ton of walking in while in the AC plus you can get yourself a pretzel as a treat to fuel your trek! Also this might be kinda dorky but a nice hat that covers your neck and face will help a lot if you're going to be outside. Like the kind that dorky dads always have. You're not going to be the peak of fashion but you'll be much cooler in the sun.

They are sweeter but also have a weird nut flavour that's like almonds lol it's strange I know but they are quite the staple here in the summer!
