Honestly I haven't seen an discussion on this and I'd like to share this. I do not see a news section in our forum? So I apologize if I posted this in the wrong spot. I wanted to post in debate because there is actually so much that went wrong and I would love the ideas from everyone on this topic. It is a sad sad subject... so with that being said my prayers and thoughts go out to them and their families.
So as many or some of you may not know OceanGate Inc. is a private US company that operated out of Washington. It provided crewed submersibles for research and exploration. They were founded in 2009 by Stockton Rush and in 2021 they were taking payments by customers to visit the Titanic shipwreck. I believe the costs of these explorations were around approx. 200K USD. Their goal was to make underwater exploration cheaper and more accessible to citizens kinda like Blue Origin or SpaceX trying to bring down spaceflight costs.
Forward to June 18th Sunday morning they began their tour to the Titanic wreck. It takes about 2 hours to get to the wreckage in the Atlantic Ocean and it is approx. a descent of 12,500 feet. Roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes into the descent they lost transmission to the crew. I believe 8 hours later from what i heard is when OceanGate made the call to CoastGuard.
The vessel has a 96-hour supply. From what is known rescue teams from US, Canada and even France has joined the rescue team. I've included a depths picture as well as sources for this. I also am including a previous OceanGate employee source stating that this company failed to keep safety as a number 1. There are 5 people who may not come back and this is just saddening beyond all levels. The fact most companies do not take safety into account is disturbing.
Ill be including a live link for a youtube channel as well as other videos to watch. What do you guys think of this? We cant do much but, im hoping rescuing teams can honestly do the impossible. I believe they have 40 hours of oxygen left..

I just can't believe the fact that these submersibles can only communicate with their support ships via texting while they're directly beneath them... that's insane. Sincerely hope that they'll be found, because that's a horrific way to go.
On a lighter note, I can't believe the company named themselves OceanGate... it's like they were manifesting a PR nightmare.
it's pretty much assured that the vessel imploded, yeah? i heard that it wasn't suspicious when they lost comms, but later when they didn't resurface I think some Navy guy was saying that there was like a 1% chance that they survived the dive at all.

My biggest fear is drowning to death. So this is a nightmare scenario for me. No way in hell you’d catch me in a submarine, bolted closed from the outside, 12,000 feet (or meters?) below the ocean. I’m happy enough looking at pictures of the titanic.
I hope they find the sub and rescue them soon. I just don’t know how they’d even plan a rescue mission that deep into the ocean.

Last I saw the search parties were still hoping they’d be found alive? I haven’t kept too close of tabs on it.
Realistically… drowning/the pressure - it doesn’t matter. If the sub busts the pressure would kill them instantly. If it holds or even leaks, they will suffocate/drown eventually. Either scenario is a huge nope for me!

There’s some reports of sonar in the area picking up some banging noises, so there is some small hope that they’re somehow still alive.
But they have about 24 hours of oxygen left even if that’s true
I feel so bad for the 19 year old kid on board in particular. He’s so young. I hope they find them

I saw that on tiktok today while mindlessly scrolling. They were dropping sonar buoys into the water to try and pick up on any signs of life. They were hearing some banging every 30mins. If it were constant banging, it would supposedly not been picked up. Since it was at regular 30minute intervals, that's not naturally occurring and it was able to be picked up. Only problem is the sonar scans pretty extensive amounts of ocean, so they can narrow down the search, but can't pinpoint it.
I definitely feel bad for that young kid. He was probably just looking to have a fun experience with his dad and things went horribly wrong.

Hoping for a positive outcome like many, but based on the likelihood - it seems grim. I hope I'm wrong. I've been curious if they are still alive, how they were able to relieve themselves and if they had food potentially on it too. I feel for the kid (as well as the others) - he'd be so heavily traumatized, especially if he was really looking forward to a once in a lifetime experience like this. That's an absolute nightmare to be in.

i just read an article that they were in fact using an old Logitech controller made in the 2010s.
i would be kinda sus'ed out if i see them using the controller and navigating the submarine that im about to go into.
but i do hope that they can be found, dead or alive (of course alive will be the best result).
with major accidents like this, there will usually be stricter guidelines enforced and further enhancements to the machines in question - in turn, making them even safer than the last time. just like TWA Flight 2 and United Airlines Flight 718 accident, or even the recent crashes of Boeing’s 737 MAX 8.
