not to sound like a bitch, but like 90% of the artists who support NFTs in the twitter thread for this have some of the ugliest shit i've ever seen and i wouldn't be surprised if they are doing NFTs because it's the only way any self-respecting person would ever buy their work

edit: ok maybe i am being a bitch since i'm also dying because i've seen some acting like commissioners don't tip or aren't willing to pay hundreds for a large or highly polished piece when there are definitely artists who do that and regularly fill slots in their queue every time they announce they're taking commissions again.

i'm no picasso and i don't do comms, but even my no-art-degree ass knows that you need to have the quality to justify pricing your work like that and there's no way in hell i'm going to get a crunchy looking jpeg of a dog in a hat when i can pay someone to draw my OCs kissing or smth

I have, and will continue to, pay obscene amounts for commissioned art from artists whose work I love. I think the thing a lot of people don't consider when you pay for a commission is that - yes, of course you're doing this for yourself - but others will also enjoy the work! (At least in my case, because I almost always give the artist the artist the go-ahead to post the piece as part of their own promotion). I'm not particularly interested in the idea of ownership when it comes to this, more patronage and getting the content I want to see but can't create out into the world.

On the other hand, NFTs are paying for the idea of ownership. It's scammy and stupid and base as fuck. I think that as NFTs exist now, they are basically a money grab for the people selling them and a dick-swinging contest for those purchasing them.

The fact that JS is even doing this tells us pretty much everything we need to know about their priorities. I already haven't spent money on their site in over a year, but they no longer even get the grace of my time.

I don't know anything about China's regulations, but here in the U.S. companies create different segments of themselves to operate in foreign nations to take advantage of certain regulations that don't exist here. My company for instance has its official United States branch, incorporated in California, and then a United Kingdom branch that's incorporated in the U.K. that rolls up as part of the overall Global company. It allows the company to have certain functionality we wouldn't be able to exercise if we were solely based in the U.S. The U.S. + the U.K. branch together roll up to a Global segment, but each individual arm only has to obey regulations of the nation it formally exists in.

Longwinded boring af way to say I doubt Jumpstart will be in any trouble because I assume China regulations will not apply to a company incorporated in the U.S. regardless of where the parent company is located, but it is still very funny and I would enjoy being wrong

This is getting worse by the day. Really hope TNT isn't too far into this whole scam and can just pull out of the idea entirely. Just go back to fixing the site and adding pet slots/UCs...

It's pretty clear that TNT is actually innocent of this - it really seems wholly a JumpStart decision and side project which, of course, just proves how utterly shite trash JS is as a company, which we've been tracking for a while.

I've wondered for a while, how much of TNT's apparent disarray is at the hands of JS. Is there any company that would be a better owner?
