Nightwish is one of my top favourites but nothing will ever beat the entire dark passion play album for me. Every single song, just all of them.

    - - - Updated - - -

Not nightwish but something I listen to alongside them often.

Oh shit, how did I miss this?!

Now, my primary “genre” of music has been and always will be emo, but I am also a big metal head. I mostly listen to deathcore and slam bands, but I also fuck with some black metal and death metal. I go to shows pretty frequently and have been for the last 11+ years.

I actually just saw Signs of the Swarm, To the Grave, and Tidebringer last night! Fucking wicked show. I’ve seen SotS twice now. Then on Wednesday, I saw Slaughter to Prevail. Also an insane show. Both were sold out and the crowd went FERAL.

Last week, I saw PeelingFlesh, I Am, Chelsea Grin, and Suicide Silence. PeelingFlesh is a relatively new band to the scene, but their energy onstage is insane. I hope they blow up and get big, because they truly deserve it. I met and spoke to their vocalist and I told him I am blown away by their talent and energy and he was a really nice dude to talk to. I also got to meet Eddie from Suicide Silence and talked to him for a bit. I also bumped into Johnny from Angelmaker and Carcosa (the show was in Vancouver, BC and that’s where Angelmaker/Carcosa are from). I’ve met Chelsea Grin before (back when Alex Koehler was still in it) and I’m not exactly a huge fan of Tom Barber for a variety of reasons I’m not going to get into here, so I didn’t seek him out in the crowd lol. Anyways, when Suicide Silence played, their final song was No Pity for a Coward and they brought out the vocalist from PeelingFlesh and Mike from Angelmaker to join Eddie on stage. It was SO FUCKING COOL. That’s the plus of going to metal shows in Vancouver, someone from Angelmaker and/or Carcosa will almost ALWAYS be in the crowd and the bands often bring them up to feature vocals on a song

I’ve been to a number of shows these last few years. I’ll list the bands so you can see the variety of what I’ve been to!

    -The Acacia Strain
-Fit for an Autopsy (met Joe Bad)
    -Kruelty
-Alexisonfire (I know, not super metal but also one of my all time FAVOURITE bands)
    -Avenged Sevenfold
    -Counterparts
    -Like Moths to Flames
    -Vulvodynina(after Duncan was kicked out)
    -A Wake in Providence
-Carcosa (got to meet the entire band)
-Angelmaker (got to meet the entire band)
    -I Declare War
    -Thy Art is Murder
    -Cannibal Corpse
    -Behemoth
-Lorna Shore (got to meet Will Ramos)
    -Shadow of Intent
    -Brand of Sacrifice
    -Bodysnatcher
    -Boundaries
-AFI (not metal I know but my ALL TIME favourite band and that was when I went to the 20th anniversary show for Sing the Sorrow in LA, so I have to mention it)
    -Lamb of God
    -Spiritbox
    -Killswitch Engage
    -Slipknot
    -I Prevail
    -In This Moment
-Signs of the Swarm (the first time I saw them. Met their vocalist back then and also last night)
-Mental Cruelty (when Luca was still in the band)
    -Disentomb
    -Visceral Disgorge
    -Despised Icon
    -Ingested
    -Kublai Khan (fucking WICKED live)
    -Protest the Hero
    -Motionless in White
    -Silverstein
    -Terror
    -Backtrack
    -Expire
    -The Ghost Inside
    -The Devil Wears Prada
    -Whitechapel
    -GWAR
    -Structures
    -Gideon
    -Stray from the Path
    -Capsize
    -Hundredth
    -Serration
    -Mortality Rate

There’s definitely more that I am missing because I can’t remember but yeah. That’s just a few of the many bands I’ve seen in the last few years and the list keeps growing!

But yeah, can you tell that deathcore, slam, and hardcore are my go-tos?

I have so many of these to ask you about that I don't even know how to begin.
How is modern GWAR live? Is it any different from pre 2014? I haven't really had the heart to move on from the old days yet.

Honestly I can’t remember. It was probably 5-6 years ago and I’m not a big fan of them, they were just on the bill lol. I think they were okay from what I remember??

Don’t be shy, ask me about any of the others!!

Super relevant! I'm going thru a revival right now of Between the Buried and Me. My big bro got me into them years ago when I was in high school and Colors is one of my all-time favorite albums ever. I'm listening right now to the sequel of that album, Colors II.

I love songs like this one (particularly starting around 7:00) that are pretty long and change so much throughout. It's like a mini opera or something? Idk, but I love how this band does that for a lot of albums and make them into like a whole seamless 1+hr song.

(My fave song from them is Prequel to the Sequel which was on Rock Band I believe, but they cut the song in half for the game lol)

Not nightwish but something I listen to alongside them often.
I don't know which album of theirs I'd definitively call my favourite...it's probably a toss-up between Wishmaster and Oceanborn, with Once a very, very close third. I love their more fantasy-themed songs.
