I didn't win, but lemme tell you that book was even more unsettling than the movie, or at least 12 year old me thought it was.
My favorite thing about Coraline is how a lot of people anecdotally remark it being creepier as you get older, although I feel like 12 is still in the "oooh, fun adventure" age range.

The Graveyard Book is really cute. I was an adult the first time I read it, though.

I'm actually not sure if those same anecdotes apply to the movie, I've only heard it about the book, but I could definitely see it being the case!

@(you need an account to see links) i also think the book is scarier! Mostly by Wybie's adition i guess, Cat character is also less charismatic and more mysterious! The story is scary, a spirit kidnaping kids with candies :shivers:
@(you need an account to see links) i can't 100% hate or dismiss Lovecraft because i'm 100% objetive about the time he lived, he was a byproduct of his time, he was racist, poor and desesperated; but his works are amazing and the have improved with time and comunity

Last night watched Samaritan! It is more action than anything, but it had it's dark moments, my partner said we should look one move each weekend so i'm up to go!

EDIT: León is bloack and purple!

The first season of American Horror Stories is nice to get into the Halloween mood. It's not scary, but it's got some creepy elements and it will become a classic if you give it a chance! I rewatch this season over and over just got Halloween comforts. :3

I think I will have to go with autumn, just because I'm squeamish and am not good with handling blood or horror lol. However, there is a kid's Halloween show I used to watch all the time growing up and going back to it is pretty nostalgic. The graphics are pretty...rough compared to what's out there now but I still enjoy watching this every Halloween or so when it comes on! It's the "Scary Godmother" movie series. It's about a little girl who ends up in the bad side of a prank inside a haunted house but ends up making some new spooky friends and allies. I linked the first two movies below since they're available on Youtube.

realized I completely forgot one of my favorites.

The Beyond (1981) by Lucio Fulci

There are a lot of great Italian horror movies out there, and there are especially a lot of great Lucio Fulci horror movies. To me The Beyond is something special. Out of the gate, I will admit, the plot is pretty bare bones and it's got a fair share of camp. What it also has is my absolute favorite score of any horror movie ever, composed by the great Fabio Frizzi, and a lot of very unsettling imagery that gets under my skin and stays there.

The Beyond isn't intended to tell a story, which is why the plot is so threadbare. It's intended to make the audience feel a certain way, and that way is upset. It's the movie Fulci made after his wife's suicide upon learning she was terminally ill with cancer to channel his feelings about what happened. It's a grim little nightmare.

a snippet of the score and the imagery

I also mentioned Eyes Without a Face in my first post and am now obsessed with its beautiful soundtrack again so here's a clip from that one too

    Ernest P. Worrell
This isn't my favorite Ernest movie but it's still Halloweeny so I watch it annually.
