I'm not sure if the evolutions have to do with the backgrounds though? Poltergeist evolved even though I always use the snowy BG, and Rinna got the same evolution but with the heart BG. I think the hearts BG is just a little treat for filling a certain amount of hearts, not necessarily tied to evolutions themselves - but hey, that's just a theory. A Ryu theory.

Yep, that's right! So long as you're evolving upwards - you'll stick to a given branch. If you're not lucky enough to evolve upwards at the first phase of a Ryugotchi's branch, then there's a chance that you'll evolve sideways instead, which results in jumping to a separate branch.

So I got to neglect my Dratini to get a cat? Meh not sure if I'm going to do that, that's sad

A piece of information I forgot to add - Poltergeist was a regular starter dragon before this evolution, so it's the first stage of the feline branch.

actually you are probably right. I only thought it had to do with the background because anytime I saw an egg before an evolve, it was with that background. I think you are on target with your theory

You don't have to neglect your Ryugotchi in order to change branches! Upon hatching, if you don't happen to be lucky enough to evolve, then there's a chance that you'll jump over to another branch instead.

The Hearts A-Plenty scene is unlocked if your Ryugotchi is over a certain amount of luck when it evolves or jumps branches!

Thanks @(you need an account to see links) ! I got my hearts background a few days ago and I still had my initial Ryu. My kitty evo was also my first change. So if I understand right our ryus can jump branches without an evolution and us noticing then? Very interesting... I wish there was a way for us to know.

I re-rolled each Ryugotchi who experienced a botched evolution after I fixed a problem with the mechanic. If you didn't get a new hatch right away, then you'll be getting it in the next few days!
