I am STUMPED on these backgrounds. The winter one seems so random, and despite being away a lot yesterday evening and all last night, no dice for the Surfs Up. Hmmm.

I wonder if it's to do with like. Not so much the frequency of the interactions but the breadth of them. Like if you clean poop x10 for the same 4-5 ryus, or if you clean poop x10 for 8-10 different ryus
Would explain why some newborn ryus already have the backgrounds at hatching

I got my ryu this morning and see I've got all 3 backgrounds unlocked. If I can help with any theory let me know!

I am just randomly browsing around sometimes hoping to perhaps trigger the surf up background.
Is it possible that, since you do not have a Ryu of your own to begin with, that the people that are unlocking the backgrounds, thus helping others scoop the poop, are actually helping themselves?
Since we need to do actions to unlock our own, those actions would then count towards unlocking other things, like BGs.
Meaning, all the early Ryu-ers that already had their eggs didn't have the luxury of contributing to their own eggs because they:
A. Stopped early to let others have a chance at getting their own and
B. The BGs weren't released at the time that the earlier people got them.
So once they stopped scooping, they didn't gain anymore chances to play with their own (unless snuck in of course), as it was common free range for more users to acquire hatchlings of their own.
Based on the fact that I've went through the Parent List multiple times without receiving the Funderland, ****EDIT: I'm dumb and don't know how to make sense. I apologize for this sentence - it seems impossible that everyone that already had one upon hatching/got one along the way had gone through that list as well. -
I mean, unless, after hatching, people were still scooping the poop.
That doesn't make sense though when you think about the fact that people are hatching with the BGs already unlocked. "Points" we'll say, start getting tallied from the moment you engage with a real one (right, Bat? *nudge nudge*). I think we can comfortably saying that points are based on poops, feeds, plays and hearts filled. Possibly, bc this is a theory.
I know this theory has been shot down numerous times before but I'll stick to my guns until something else comes up that makes sense (to me, please dont shoot me).
I took that last bit out because you're not. This is valuable! I thought it was like, sequence based or something earlier. I haven't tried anything other than when we were first trying to unlock the ryus, but I really like your thinking. Now to go test when time permits.

Do you remember if you fed/cleaned up after just one Ryu a few times, or did you clean up after multiple ones?

I do remember going out of my way to farm "rare" ryus AKA people who got theirs early on but haven't really been active since and therefore aren't on the regular farm rotation (like all the ryus from the active people on this thread). Which would have upped my count of individual ryus interacted with...
This is fun to tinfoil about if nothing else
