It's Summertime!

It's finally summer time!
(at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere!)



So, I want to know...

What is your favourite thing to do in the summer? Are you a total beach bum? Lake lifer? How do you like to stay cool? Popsicles, ice cream, good old fashioned AC?
Maybe you have a favourite memory from the summer time? I wanna hear about it!

I will go first!

As a kid, we would always go to the outdoor waterslide park in June at the end of the school year. We would stay all day until we were EXHAUSTED. There was this one slide that was super scary to me, it was really fast, had big drops and was in pitch black. I remember the year I turned 12, I was FINALLY brave enough to go down it by myself. So I did, and it was a blast! Once it was time to leave, we'd get a twist (chocolate and vanilla swirled) soft serve ice cream cone.

Oooh, Summertime. When I was a kid that meant taking extra classes for fun, like acting or dance. They're less exciting now that I work.

Summers were my favorite times of the academic year in college since I could go and study one or two classes at a time, and live the material all day and night, like literature or astronomy. I loved my university and its summer courses are 100% the ones I remember best.

Now I cherish the few opportunities I have when I can visit a friend or my favorite, stroll through a scenic area with great views! Some shade required, I both melt and wilt in the sun. Cannot go anywhere without sunglasses either.

Speaking of ice cream, I'm a huge fan! Classics like Cookies and Cream, Cookie Dough, but Peanut Butter flavored ice creams are SO good too, Fudgy Brownie, Butterfinger in a sprinkled waffle cone. ... And 1000% yes to ice cream sandwiches in the summer!

I'm with @(you need an account to see links) on having a complicated relationship with my summer birthday. As a kid it meant my friends were out of town, and as an adult, I'm now even further away from friends, and the places I'd like to visit are too hot or booked up super early in the season. Always kinda wished my birthday was Sept-Oct instead. I need to figure out what to do for this year since last year was a flop!

I don't want to end on a negative note so I will say I'm really glad it doesn't get too hot where I live now, I love seeing the blue sky and the different flowers that bloom throughout the season, and the longer daylight hours is a real mood boost.

Well I now live in Arizona. Summer is a naughty word. It is HOT, HOT, HOT. So the only way to cool of is to jump in a pool. Any pool. There are supposed to be nice lakes here in AZ but I have not found them.
But.............................. I am really a New Yorker. And back east we boated almost daily, in the summer, in and around the city. My favorite trip was simply to boat around Manhatten Island. We would than drop anchor by the Statue of Liberty and float for the rest of the day.
Oh do I miss the boat..................

Oh man, yes Arizona in the summer is too hot! If I lived there I would absolutely be swimming in the pool DAILY

summer is my least favorite season bcuz i genuinely cannot handle how hot it gets here, BUT it is the perfect time to catch toads.
there is no greater joy than walking thru ur yard to find some little toad friends hangin out. ive caught so many this summer so far and when i tell u it makes me so giddy i Mean It.
last week i found the biggest one i've seen yet and it was a life changing experience.

I never went boating when I lived in New York (unless you count the ferry to jersey, lmao), but that does sound nice! I mostly didn't like summer in new york, too humid and all of the bad smells just stewed. It's looking like I'll be headed back east for a bit, so kiiiiiind of makes me want to try a boat ride, but proooooobably won't.

I’ve only ever seen little frogs once up at my husband’s family cabin. It was a teeny tiny little fwoggie he was so cute!! I also love the sounds of frogs and toads ribbiting at night. It’s so… relaxing. It’s truly one of the key aesthetics to summer for me.

I used to catch ladybugs in my grandparent’s backyard. I would grab an old Tupperware container (that actually was really just an old margarine container LMFAO) and I would fill it with grass and leaves and whatever I could find. I would poke little holes in the lid and I’d keep a bunch of ladybugs inside. I would run into the house saying “granny look at all my ladybugs!” And she would pretend to be “scared” of bugs to make me life at her “horrified” reaction to seeing them 😂
