With UC pets now pretty much out of the trading pool, it makes me wonder, would high level BD pets now be the top tier?

You've hit the nail on the head though lol, I am 100% planning on farming UC tokens. If they really are species locked I have a ton of VBN trading fodder and hope I can turn e.g. a frame-named UC mutant into a nice UC plushie of the same species down the road.

I am wondering if they'll try and combat this by pre-equipping the NC UC token to existing UCs rather than just providing it to the account the UC is on, and that there'll be a charge to un-toggle etc.

Separately, I have a feeling that there could be 2 tiers - the Deluxe Styling Studio Supplies we've already seen will allow you to pick any colour and any species, whereas perhaps there is a "Faerie Styling Studio Supplies" (suggested in the IG giveaway) that restricts you to picking a Faerie skin for your pet only.

It's probably unlikely but might explain some of the differing terms they've used.
That's a good way to look at it too. I wonder how much the tokens will cost, I don't think I have seen that posted or shared anywhere yet. Are they going to shock us with the price or will it be a reasonable number?
    What's my definition of success?
Creating something no one else can
Being brave enough to dream big
Grindin' when you're told to just quit
Giving more when you got nothin' left

TNT Fallie said something along the lines of being pleasantly surprised at the price. I'm guessing 750-1000NC, no higher than 1250 (let's assume there are 2 'tiers' and 1250 lets you choose from multiple colours with your token)?

I speak as someone with a lot of UCs, I know there's a lot of stress in this change but honestly this reassures me that there's still a viable method for UC trading for most of us (I'm assume the majority buy NC or at least have boxes from Trudy etc).

I know it's not a perfect solution for side accounts but with the rumours that NeoPass will make it easier to trade NC with your side, I'm really hopeful that there's a good way forward.
I'm still pretty sure you can't trade UCs for other pets, right? You can trade the token as a NC item for other NC items, but you couldn't trade a royal kyrii NC token for a pet called George.

So trading chains for anything other than other UCs are wrecked, still, and given we don't know when royals etc will be released you also can't keep trading up for the pet you want via NC right now.

This is something I really do think they need to clarify

Or people who were hoping to get to RW/RN or nice BD pets with their UC trading fodder, which now can't be traded for other pets. I can understand why they're doing it for simplicity and to try to screw as much money out of people as possible, but it's going to kill enjoyment for a lot of people who liked UC trading and knock so many people back to square one on their trade chains.

And the people yelling about how UC owners are greedy elites who just want status pets - when I see an account full of obviously loved UCs, I think about either the time and work it took people to get those pets, or how they must have been around a long time. And yes, in some cases I think they probably bought the pets.

Now when I see an account full of beautiful UC pets it will tell me this is someone who probably spent $200 minimum in the NC mall, and that's it. It's not going to be less of a status symbol, just more of a directly financial one. If they were going to change all pets, it should have been free, imo. I thought the NC UC option was for people who didn't want to trade - and giving people another option was great - but they're really showing a lack of care for the people who did trade and helped keep the site alive with their investment in their pets.

At the very least when they decided that this is the way they were going they should have been much more transparent much earlier, told us what they were doing, what the exact cost for NCUC would be and given us a good amount of time to complete trading chains etc. It's the lack of transparency, and directly telling us regular UCs wouldn't be affected and would still retain trading value that really sours this.

I do genuinely like a lot of what new TNT is doing to make pets and items accessible on the site, but literally every time they manage to handle it in a way that leaves it feeling bitter. If they could manage to be open with their playerbase and take proper feedback this would stop happening.

Having been through previous purges, the pets that will be most devalued by a regular purge are the mid level pets that lots of players have. The elite names people actually want will still belong to a small pool of people and the new elite names will largely be traded among them. But it does still mean more people can hopefully trade for names they really like. I hope if they purge they can do it differently to the way they've done it before so there's some kind of more random chance for people to get names and less staying up to 3am waiting for a certain name to purge and that you beat the bots to snagging it.
agree with all of this. also y1 and y2 pets are gonna be the new ‘elite’ status with a purge temporarily nuking rw/rns and ucs nuked

I have to say I never really got the Y1/Y2 thing, like is a badly named pet that's that old inherently worth more than one that's say 5-10 years old with a nice name? Idk

I do think a lot of Y1/Y2 are more likely to have nice names because there was more availability of names, but I do get it as being an exciting part of Neopets history, especially as many were lost to purges and whatnot. I have a couple Y2s incidentally and don't personally place much additional value on them, but I do think it would be neat to have a Y1.

Thanks, the history part is a good perspective tbf I agree that a nicely named Y1 would be quite special.

That's the equivalent of the Grade 10 1st Edition Charizard cards from the 1999 Pokemon TCG Base Set. They made a lot of Charizards over the next 25 years, but none of them are the OG, and that's why they're worth millions.
