They seem to only cater or remember the nostalgia crowd when it's for premium paid items or merch.
The whole feels like an overzealous ultra conservative evangelical catholic team is in charge that cant make up their mind on rules/policies anymore.

I’m so sick of the editorial being useless and TNTs archaic rules. My kid is 9, (she has a neopets account but doesn’t really use it) and tells me all the time about her “ships” (sailor moon and tuxedo mask is the most common if you’re wondering). Like, kids media has romance in it. There’s absolutely no reason those of us that make characters cant say X and X are married. Fuck, the majority of Disney movies revolve around relationships.

I strongly suspect the reason it’s a 0 tolerance policy on all romance is because they don’t want people saying their characters are queer, but also know they can’t say “romance is fine but only if it’s hetero”. Refusal to elaborate on that also explains why their answers are always vague and make no sense, and why their own canon romance (Jazan and Nabile) is fine but they won’t directly address how

This could very well be a legit reason. They probably have a lot of christian sponsors etc. that don't like anything even vaguely LGBTI (not saying being christian always means you're homophobic). That's probably also why you can't change your pet's gender through html. I was really surprised when they introduced the 'other' gender years ago. Though I think that was a different company?
