    New House - New DIYs

We just bought a new house so we are starting all over again!

Figured I'd make a post sharing some of our recent changes.

Currently working on the kitchen so stay tuned!

    1st Project:
    Bathroom Remodel

    2nd Project:
    Kitchen Demo

** Edit: I will be adding all updates to this main post **
As well as posting them but that way you can see them all here without having to sort through pages.

Love the wall colour, is it sage? And a stupid question (non-American here) but what are air grates? And why are they in the floor?

same here, non-american here, i too was wondering what an air grate is. my initial thought was that it was a drain cover. lul.
but i loooove diy projects. i wish i could do that but it'll probably end up more like a pig sty. XD

I don't know if that's the real term for it. It's where heat or ac comes into the room. It was painted 3 times before we bought it so I stripped all the paint and gave it a gold touch.

In our old house every room had something gold. Either a gold framed mirror, the window trim, or the cabinet hardware.

So just a little touch in this house too

Wall color is Zen by Behr
    Base: 1724

It is the little gold square in front of the door in the last photo.

I just bought a house this summer and I'm slowly doing things to it, not super experienced with home DIY (though i did work as an electricians helper for a few years), but I'm learning! This weekend I'm tearing up some carpet and sealing the concrete underneath with some epoxy. Do you have any favorite youtube channels, websites or books that you learned how to do things from or do you just find whatever project by project?

Normally when I start a project I look up videos related to it. Alot of channels are kind of niche so you might not find what you're looking for going to just one. But if you're planning a room I'd say look up thing your going to do.

Doing new base boards and trim look it up! "How to install base boards"

Replacing a sink? "How to install new bathroom sink"

Basically everything is on YouTube so what ever your trying to do just type how to in front of it x).

Cool, yeah that's what I've been doing so far. And I got Mercury Stardust's book which is very informative. I also pester the people at the hardware store with questions
At the end of the day a lot of stuff has been trial and error so far, and when I first bought the house I had some nightmare situations with contractors so at this point its like, i can spend a bunch of time and money to get a crap outcome with contractors, or spend more time and wayyyy less money to get a crap outcome myself so....... def going with the latter bc I'm also learning that way. How many houses have you worked on? Do you flip them or something?

I'm cheap so I prefer to do things myself if I can x)

Our first home we refinished almost top to bottom we loved it but hated the town and the state. So after 7 years we sold and moved 2000 miles away. Starting fresh.

So this is my 2nd home I've worked on. We love it here so no plans to move again.

It's just the two of us so we are likely going to rip out a bedroom and make it a foyer for the upstairs. Open it up and bring in more light.

Definitely not good for resale. But if you only do things in your house for the next people... your just renting from them. All about making it your own space and safe haven!
