I can answer these!
We're taught to only approach houses that are well-lit, both exterior and interior, and decorated. If a house is not decorated or lit up properly, odds are the house is not giving out candy, so don't approach. Normally smaller kids are with their parents, but once you get older, you can usually approach the house yourself. You're never supposed to go inside a house either, that's one way kids can get snatched.
All kinds of brand candies and off-brand candies are given out. Some occasionally give out money, but very rarely, that tends to be old school. Usually off-brand candies or anything that's been opened or looks suspicious are tossed.
Typically kids stop ToTing by their late teens, but it's also not uncommon to see teenagers out for the tradition.
The only time to play tricks is the night before Halloween, called Mischief/Goosey Night. This is when you toilet paper someone's trees, or egg their house or car, but that sort of thing has died out afaik. Some might still honor it, but for the most part, there are no tricks involved.

Happy Halloween! My favorite time of the year!
One of my favorite things is decorating for Halloween, but I never actually put away any of the Halloween decorations in my room last year...so I guess I just gotta get more!
Also gotta add to the candy corn discussion- I like it enough to maybe have a handful every year, but I could never eat a whole bag of it. I definitely liked it more as a kid though. And I've always love the pumpkins (I don't know how to describe them, you know the ones!) more...but thinking back on it, do candy corn and those pumpkins taste the same?
My favorite thing is caramel apples. I think I've had so many already lol!

I remember getting my mom to buy the cosplay costume off Ebay and everything. Though I don't remember if it came with the wig or not.
Early highschool years, I was a total anime weeb lol
TMNT is awesome though. I don't think I dressed up as a ninja turtle, but I remember liking the show.

Thank you to carrottea for the lovely userbar
Everybody saying they don't have candy corn where they live reminded me of a time I did a candy exchange with an internet friend and swapped candy corn for kinder surprise eggs.
To answer my own question about costumes, when I was in fourth grade I was a robot, made out of a big ol' box, but it was so big on me that it went to my knees, so I was basically stuck standing the entire second half of the school day when we were allowed to change out of our uniforms into costumes. One other student had a box-made costume, so we had this kinship of realizing that we REALLY did not think things through. Was still cute!
happy halloween!!! i do like candy corn, some candies i remember being particularly excited to get were those giant pixie sticks (pure sugar, definitely more about the novelty than flavor) and those spongebob...krabby patty...gummies? these things LMAO they didn't even taste that good but again...the novelty....
also my final halloween dressing up i was like 14 and went as a lamp
