    I've always wondered..

So back when everyones passwords were leaked back in 2012~ my account got targeted very fast for the UCs. Overnight while I slept the guy changed my pass, email, deleted all neofriends and traded away my UCs on PC. I was frozen and everything got reversed really fast.

My question is.. why the hell did they do this? Is there something I'm missing? It sounds like they're wasting their own time by breaking into actives peoples accounts and randomly trading the pets. It seemed to be happening to everyone at the time.

True. though it's really strange why they rush to trade the pets for shittier pets instead of selling them outright. Maybe trading for more popular ones that sell faster.

You're also assuming the people who did this knew who was active and who was not. No guarantee they reliably knew for sure and didn't just grab the first nice-looking thing they found and try to flip it.

I logged in every day though and surely they'd check "Last seen" if they gave the slightest ounce of a fuck?

    Nope.

When that list first dropped it was the wild west.

As best I've heard it told (because back in those days I, too, was a poor unsuspecting noob using the same passwords that got leaked and got my stuff stolen on more than one occasion) the rules were minimal to non-existent and it was the blackest of black markets.

Zero fucks were given, people grabbed what they could grab and held onto it for as long as they could.

Why would they care? As someone who lost an account with a terribly named UC Grey Wocky and had a friend lose an account and get it back, minus the NPS that were in the bank I can't see why they'd care. If you're stealing something, you're generally liquidating it almost instantly to avoid holding onto it and getting caught....

Ah I see thanks for the responses. I guess I was one of the luckier ones. Just reported the account and it was frozen in 10 min. When they got around to responding to my ticket they gave my back everything that was missing. Only thing I had to ask for was the p2 and p3s that had been ripped off by the tradees. The whole situation left me wondering why they'd waste their time with active accounts but I guess it does work with some.

Honestly blame tnt more than anything else. Savings peoples passwords in plain text like WTF?
