2003/2004 Rare Stamp prices

I was going through some webarchives of old stamp price guides from 2003/2004 and thought I would post them here for those that might find them interesting. Not that many people cared about stamps prior to the avatars being released, I vividly remember Coltzan Stamp going for 200-500k on the TP a week after they were given out from Lenny Conundrum. Keep in mind, neopoints weren't as inflated as they are today, the game was a lot more competitive/active back then and internet speeds were a lot slower.

You would have to provide context for this to really have an impact.

This may seem "cheap," but if there were a truly accurate "Neoinflation index" I don't think anyone would be nearly as impressed with how "affordable" they were.

Having the disposable NP to throw at stamps was something for the truly rich. There was nothing in stamps but status -- you gained nothing but a number next to your name or a position on a high score table for having them. Not until these avatars started coming out, and the prices began to climb higher and higher.

I would be fascinated to see a real study of the evolution of the value of NP over time, but it's way beyond me.

To be fair, this can be applied to a lot of other aspects in Neopets as well depending on how you look at it.

Agreed, it is an interesting topic. Hyperinflation of limited-edition items/objects/cosmetics within virtual economies seem to be commonplace across different genres of games in general imo. Another good example would be (you need an account to see links) � a cosmetic item that that gives no benefit apart from telling other players you are rich in the game. I think there is an element of Neopets that is about showing off your account, items, trophies, pets, avatars, bd record (RIP), gallery, stamps, etc.

I remember being proud to make it into 6 figures lol I left for large chunks of time though and every time I came back shit was so different.

God, making it to 100k was such an accomplishment back in the day! I remember feeling quite badly that a friend of mine made it there before I did. Still, it's easy to forget just how much the value of the neopoint has changed. Like it's easy to write it all off as "i was eleven and stupid", which was a factor for sure, but shit's changed.

Oh man, this brings me back. I was an early avatar collector, but the stamps were still just way, WAYYY, out of almost everyone's league that no one even tried. I played lots of sponsor games, but I don't even remember that one that supposedly gave stamps.

What's a good current stamp guide? I haven't followed up on them in years. The last I remember was neopets.com/~stamp which ... is a teeny bit outdated.

JN has a good (you need an account to see links), and will calculate estimated values of what you're missing and there are filtered searches for each page, but it can be a bit tedious to get through (sorry if you already know about this and were looking for something more comprehensive).
