In 1960, the United States generated 87.1 million tons of municipal solid waste and recovered (recycled) only 4.3% of it. The amount of municipal solid waste generated in the United States can be modeled by the formula w = 3.14n + 87.1, while the amount recovered can be modeled by the formula w = 0.57n + 3.78, where w is in millions of tons and n is the number of years since 1960.
Determine the year which US generated 150 million more tons than it recovered.
Thanks in advance
*This math is kicking my ass because I haven't read any of the notes yet lol. Haven't even been to class yet.

I think that's right
Selling everything - PM me what you're looking for!
Ah missed that.
Than I'm pretty sure it's just:
1) 150w = 3.14n + 87.1
2) w = 0.57n + 3.78
Substitute equation 2 into 1.
Solve for n, add that to 1960 for your final answer.
Gives -71 years. I think Jake is right
@(you need an account to see links) , Only thing is it would be 1986 , since the year 1985 is completed and .95 of 1986 is done.
