The Simpsons vs Family Guy

When it comes to overall quality, if you were to compare The Simpsons in its prime to Family Guy in its prime The Simpsons would win hand over foot. I think the problem with The Simpsons was it was so brilliant and so clever for the first several seasons that they set a precedent they couldn't hope to maintain. As a result it hasn't aged well because the new content will invariably be compared to the old. With Family Guy, on the other hand, sure it's funny but it's a random, wacky, and often mindless kind of funny that doesn't set the bar particularly high for itself. Therefore it's easy to keep churning out new content of the same caliber.

I've always been a fan of the simpsons. I tried watching family guy a few times and I didn't really find it all that funny, but personal opinion I guess.

I grew up with the Simpsons as most everyone here has.. but times are evolving and Family has got more potential now than the Simpsons does. You have to admit that the Simpsons have been doing well to stay on the air as long as they have been.

Given the length of time the simpsons have been around and relevant, I would give it to them hands down. But, I would prefer to watch family guy if offered one or the other, as their humor is more up to date in a sense.

The Simpsons will always have the nostalgia factor for 90s kids. Watching it brings back too many memories for me, but when I'm actually paying attention to it, I don't find it nearly as funny as I remember it being 10 years ago. Family guy on the other hand is hilarious lol never stops making me laugh

Being a 90s kid I was never interested in the Simpsons but have always loved family guy. Simpsons I never found to be funny, while FG is just hilariously stupid comedy

What makes this so difficult is trying to compare comedy from ultimately two different time eras. The 90's would crown the simpsons hands down. More in this age though, Family Guy's comedy wins because it is more modern comedy.
