I first started with spirited away and am trying to pick a 2nd. Which would you guys recommend?
Mine was my Neighbor Totoro I think. I was very little though.

I assume I've already posted on this thread because my first movie ever was a Ghibli movie and I'm still obsessed with it. But just in case:
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. My dad had some bootleg VHS copy he made somehow of the original dubbed version that came out in the 80s that he labeled as "The bug movie." My brother and I watched it daily as kids. I'm lucky enough to live near a movie theater that routinely shows Ghibli films and go see it every time it shows again. Still my favorite movie ever.

first one I ever saw was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, it was on tv when I was 3 and I was obsessed with it but had no idea what it was called and never found out what it was until I found it again when I was 23. Second was Princess Mononoke, and then Spirited Away, when I was 13. Now my 2.5 year old sons favourite movies are Ponyo and My Neighbour Totoro

I believe it was Howl's, could be wrong though. But I am quite certain.
thank you Hollow for the amazing Gengar art piece
First is Spirited Away, which I didn't enjoy as a kid (scary!), but have come to appreciate with subsequent watchings in recent years.
Other Ghibli films I enjoy include:
- Totoro
- Kiki's Delivery Service
- Ponyo
- Porco Rosso
I tend to enjoy stories that are more self-contained with plots that resolve well. I find that sometimes the studio swings and misses with great ideas that are too expansive for the runtime (Howl's is so popular for good reason, but I find it suffers severely from this). There's also sometimes throwaway lines that don't go anywhere (Ponyo's dad hating humans? Huh?), that makes you think-- why did they even add this random line that the movie could do without? But overall I really love how much creativity and worldbuilding goes into Ghibli films, and the art style & worlds (e.g. Nausicaa, Cat's Return, Castle in the Sky, Howl's) can be so whimsical and a dreamy escape from real life. I'm looking forward to seeing Mizayaki's "last" film when it comes out later this year!

My first was Howl's Moving Castle!
I recently watched Arrietty and it was super cute. Based off the book, The Borrowers.
I've never seen Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Looks like I'll have to add that to my list!
Personally can't remember what my first Ghibli movie was, but my favorite Ghibli movies in no particular order are;
Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke.
If I think really hard about it, my first Ghibli movie might've been either Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away.
