Any estimate of the price range for these?

They wouldn’t dare piss off the few loyal users that bad. They don’t want another nft nightmare just as they’re trying to relaunch the brand. I know they want to end or lessen the black market but plenty of people traded fairly over a period of years too that would be up in arms over such a ridiculous decision.
In that survey last year (I think it was?) they had suggestions of options of how to rears or distinguish original UCs versus NC UCs, so they know they can’t do that.
Been thinking about this for a while now but I'm surprised they haven't gone down the path of trying to monetize stuff like this in the past 10 or so years.
Like selling paintbrushes at the NC mall for X amount of NC each (price depending on the tier of color), basically just trying to take back some of the revenue they lose from resellers while also setting a hard price (similar to how baby PB are used as a currency in TP).
As for the UC problem, giving them a trophy would probably be enough. It basically acts like a seal of authenticity which matters to those who worry over things like that while people who don't care and just want the old design can pay for it via cash.
I really don't think there's any risk of them (intentionally lol) force-converting existing UCs. The way they are (supposedly) implementing it sounds like it's just an equipable wearable NC item, so nothing about the pet itself is being changed except visually and only when the item is equipped. Due to that I don't think "original" UCs deserve some kind of trophy or other signifier. If TNT does it properly then you can't trade an UC for an NC UC (nor should you trade any pet for an "NC UC" since that's pet for NC trading which is not allowed) especially since transferring a pet automatically removes NC items so it would be quite clear the pet is not UC. I do wonder if there will be checks beforehand in case someone DOES try to do something ridiculous and pull a fast one over another user since the NC removal happens after the transfer goes through... but in that case I'm sure you can just ticket it back (and the other user deserves to get frozen for that lol) but that's all just hypothetical more work for TNT in the end

If TNT does force-convert existing UCs to encourage people to buy NC to re-UC-fy their pets, the resulting salt will make a person die from hypertension many times over.

In my mind there's absolutely no chance they will force convert existing UCs. If anything, existing UC's will now carry more bragging rights for being actual UC's and not "pay-to-win" ones.

If you have the UC on your account - you get a free UC cash shop items (1 per pet) and then they mass convert all the night before.
Easy solution
Of course they do, the PC takes pride in every tiny detail about your pet, including age etc. It doesn't make sense to us, but supply and demand for the right 'buyer' will definitely affect prices on whether its a real UC or an NC mall outfit. It's not just on Neopets, it's everywhere in life. It's why an OG Charizard holo card is worth 100x the exact same card, reissued. Or why first edition books are unaffordable while reissues sell under $10.
