since I mainly sleep on my left, maybe a piercing on my right side would be the move? I guess my fear is that I tend to alternate sides when I can't sleep haha; did the irritation ever evolve into anything worse, or was it just through the healing process?

I have mine on my right side. Back before I messed up my shoulder I used to sleep on my right side A LOT so it was hard for me to get used to sleeping on my left/stomach back then.
The irritation never evolved into anything worse for me. If anything, I would just throw my hair up into a bun or a ponytail to keep my hand from getting caught in it or to prevent me from brushing my hair back and bumping it. The main thing is just keeping it clean since it's in that weird area.
You don't realize how much you touch your piercings during the day when you get a new one, I've learned. Now that I've had this for almost 10 years I still catch myself playing with it sometimes and twirling it or moving it around for comfort.

I will say, it sucks if you get an ear infection because my ear canal swelled shut and just pushed it out a little (and this was like 2 years ago). It didn't do anything to the piercing but iot was uncomfortable until we got it under control.

you can get a piercing pillow hahah (look up blissbury piercing pillow). some people also use a travel pillow and sleep with their ear in the hole xD

i recently learned how much i touch my ears in general... i've punched my daith several times, and it's not even on the outside of my ear

My ears are stretched to 16 mm

And then like a few misc ear piercings I don't wear

My dahlias flare up sometimes but it's probably because I talk too much or am laughing a lot so they get irritated

I've always wanted an earhawk, snakebites and brow piercings but have never taken the plunge. I only have little lobe piercings. New year's resolution is to definitely try to get more this year!

I can't imagine doing that myself, I'd psych myself out way too hard! The pain seems like it'd be crazy there! Did you do all your piercings yourself?

ehn, I feel like you're never too old! I've known people in their 50s and 60s to get it done.
