So, Neopets has literally been:
The Rapture X The Apocolypse X What I imagine it would be like to smoke PCP at a Wiggles concert X Hell 2: Electric Boogaloo
BUUUUUUUUT
since we're all so hopelessly co-depentant on this petsite to bring us the calming nostalgic wave of dopamine boosting thru the brain, lets have a roundtable discussion (i almost said pizza, sue me) about the rampant inflation of certain items, namely PB's, Nerkmids, R99's, and a few other thingies i've noticed go higher than I do when I was in my traphouse phase.
Let's look at some ~*~ prime examples ~*~
Halloween Paint Brush
TP Value; 4,000,000+++ NP
Inflation: 200% +/-
Faerie Paint Brush
TP Value: 8,000,000+ NP
Inflation: 175-225%+
Candy Paint Brush
TP Value: 7,000,000 NP
Inflation: 150%-175%
Invisible Paint Brush
TP Value: 4,500,000 NP+
Inflation: 400%++
Chaos Giant Plushie
TP Value: 6,000,000 NP+
Inflation: 160%-200%
Faerie Bori Morphing Potion
TP Vallue 3,500,000-4,000,000 NP+
Inflation: 130%-160%
Faerie Ruki Morphing Potion
TP Value: 6,000,000 NP
Inflation: 275%-325%+
Meepit Muffins
TP Value: 12,000,000 NP+
Inflation: 300%-400%
Thats just a Few examples of the massive inflation of random items, not to mention the Nerkmid price spike, going from 65,000 NP-90,000 NP to 125,000 NP (give or take 10,000 NP) as the standard going rate for almost all Nerks, it's insane.
And don't get me started on Kad Foods...
Thesea are the prices i've seen/been quoted or asked to pay:
Tigersquash Custard: 50,000,000 NP
Glowing Apple: 50,000,000 NP
Chokato Toffee Apple: 25.000,000-50,000,000 NP
Raspberry Toffee Apple: 40,000,000 NP
..... i mean, that just nauseates me to no end lol.
So, my question(s) for yall, cK peeps;
What is causing this inflation? Is it a decrease in these items spawning in restocks, random events, or "items that give items"
What do you speculate the next group(s) of items are that are gonna take a massive price hike?
What is there to do? What can anyone of us do? Because this is going to eventually going to break the Neo-Economy. I've seen it before. It starts off smallish than populates like wildfire overnight seemingly!!
Anyways, share items you've seen inflate like a mothaf... lately... Discuss any possible plans or ideas to deal with it (besides the obvious buy at least 500,000,000-1,000,000,000 NP in items so you can afford all the inflated goods)

I think one reason for the change in the paint brushes/morphing potions is pet slots and creatable UCs on the horizon. Faerie, plushie, grey, etc are going to spike even more once we get NC UCs.
I wouldn't go so far to call it the end of the economy preceded by super inflation. The issue (for PBs at least ) is demand...
See with the new pet slots means more folks want more pets. Those pets need to get morphed and painted driving up the demand of those and related items. Nerks should also be seeing similar increase to PBs.

I feel as though the vast majority of the inflating items relate to two things. New pet slots and the inevitability of neocash UCs.
New pet slots = more pets that need to be painted/morphed and neocash UCs mean that morphing potions are very desirable along with paint brushes of course. Even morphing potions that don't transform into UC pets are somewhat valuable as one can for example one can hypothetical morph a pet into a halloween blumaroo and then premium perk that pet so it becomes a halloween moehog or lupe for UC purposes.
Nerkmids are affected by this because of the rising price and increasing demand for paint brushes. Its tempting to buy a couple nerkmids and test your luck rather than spend 10 million on a maraquan paint brush.
Kads is possibly because people are returning to the site due to the hype and the Kad avatar is one of the most desirable avatars.
I feel like the next group of items that are going to skyrocket are stamps and NP backgrounds/foregrounds. Both of these are already inflating but they will especially reach new heights for the appeal of avatar collecting and customization respectively
I haven't felt the kad one as I just don't go for those items? Feel like the avatar was reasonable to get, just have to devote a couple of weeks/month to grinding. Dare I say it was even fun...?!?!
What were PB prices back when draiks/krawks were 10mil? I can't seem to recall, but I feel like they were just as high? I think with FQCs/Premium Perk it's a lot better now than it was back then, though that requires spending real money lol.

I agree with everyone, the inflation of pet specific items has everything to do with pet slots and future NC ucs.
For nerkmids specifically, there's fewer being awarded now that a whole slew of people cancelled premium over the NFT situation.
I have seen a jump in the price of some of my petpets

About a month ago I tried to buy a Magical Pea Chia Pop, I think there were 3 or 4 on the TP at the time. The price for one was ~7m but that dude wasn't responding so I messaged another seller. He told me that his price was 15m and then basically admitted to trying to buy up the others on the TP. So... scalping essentially lol. Now he's asking for 20m and he's the only one selling them. This guy is pretty notorious for this kind of thing, but every time I see his name pop up now I get irritated lol.
Like everyone else said, the increased pet slots are a main factor. However, people like this dude are part of the problem.

Sorry to neckbeard everyone but confirming some of the paintbrush inflation is artificial, many large jumps have been made by as few as 2 accounts.
I was stalking one PB in particular and watched the TP clear out in real time (not literally, but over the shortest time I've seen thus bar by a massive whack) and then two users popped up at nearly the same time with seeking price of 4 million more than the last highest price.
I then watched it happen to a couple of other PBs and, let's just say, if you find an unrelated item with an 'inflation notice' on jellyneo and search it on the TP, you'll start seeing recurring usernames having them up for trade. Often popping up around the same time, just after the TP clears out randomly.
The demand for PBs is definitely higher with pet slots and whatnot, but the massive surges we're seeing are intentional.
The same can be said for nerkmids. When they first shot up, you could see the stores with 50+ of each nerkmid, the price kept dropping back but now has stabilised at 100k+. Funnily enough, one of the stores belonged to a user I recognised from watching pb prices lmao. Cunts.
(I'm not naming because it's anecdotal and could be the world's biggest coincidence - and also because one of the accounts has a note to TNT on their profile that suggests other people might be fucking with them)
TY for letting me get this off my chest because it's been making so fucking mad. I want PBs that aren't even UC or popular.

You can actually track the prices via jellyneo and there are some pbs that were less than 200k back in the day that are now 5-7 mill.
Some of the popular ones have gone back to their peak values and others have/had gone above that.
I was being a massive dork and putting the info into graphs recently and it's actually whack
Neopets makes me really angry apparently.

That's infuriating that there are people purposefully driving up the price of things on Neopets. What's the point? Why can't we do anything about that?
