Does anyone have any mystery/detective game recommendations?

Recently played through all of the Sherlock Holmes games, and I'm itching for more detective-type mysteries. Does anyone have any recs?

    My time has come.

I definitely understand this, because there are times when I want a game to reallyyyyy make me think and immerse myself into a case/game. Try giving these a go:

    - Danganronpa
    - Master Detective Archives: Rain Code
    - Ace Attorney
    - L.A. Noire
    - Heavy Rain (This game is linear like most detective games, but this and L.A. Noire play out differently than series like Ace Attorney and Dang)
    - Return of the Obra Dinn (this one is recommended by lots of people looking for that detective itch!)
    - AI: The Somnium Files

Ok, I'll stop for now before I get carried away haha, but! Most of these games are sold very cheap or go on discount often. Most of the games I listed can be bought on the Nintendo Switch, or you can get them on PC as well.

Thank you so much! I have never heard of any of these -- except for LA Noire, which I picked up on sale and will definitely play. I like these kinds of games because you're right, you can just sit down and zone out and immerse yourself. It usually takes just a few days and you get to fully finish it, it's so satisfying.

Do you have a favorite of these?

+1 to the Ace Attorney series! Brings back a lot of great experiences shouting at my DS

I also enjoyed Detective Pikachu, although it certainly wasn't as punishing as the others

I very much recommend Heavy Rain if you're a gamer that enjoys older titles. If I remember right, I think this game came out sometime in the 2010's, so the graphics are a bit dated. However, its story plays out somewhat like a interactive movie, mostly asking for you to push a button or two to keep it going while making decisions. It also does have mild gore if that's something you try to avoid in games, so keep that in mind too.

Out of this list though, Ace Attorney and Danganronpa are definitely my favorites. Firstly, they both have several games in their series, so if it does catch your attention, there will be more for you to play. Danganronpa has 3 games and AA has like 7 I think? The big difference between each series is your protagonist.

In AA, you play as a seasoned lawyer, so you'll get to interact with crime scenes, collect clues, and take everything you learn from your own investigations into the courtroom. Most times, the culprit may be revealed to you early, but AA does this often between their games. You may know who did it sometimes, but it's mostly up to you to piece the story together to prove that they did it!

For Dang, this game is a classic. The premise is that you're in a murder game with other students and you play as one of those students. When a murder happens, it's up to you to figure out who did it, and this game doesn't tell you who did it beforehand. You'll really have to rely on your thinking skills for this game, as you have to get the answer right to continue the game. If you guess incorrectly even once, it's game over. Though, it's not as hard as it makes it seem. A lot of times, you'll find yourself going "Wait, so when that happened with X person, then!!!" and you'll be able to connect the pieces together to figure out the case. I caught myself excited for each twist more often than not and that "I got it" feeling of solving a case will happen a lot when playing this game.

Additionally, I would steer from Rain Code for right now. That game came out last year and was made by the creators of Danganronpa. It plays out differently than its predecessor, and it helps to have an understanding of Dang before jumping into that game.

I've not played these (yet), but I've heard good things about:
    Paradise Killer
    Disco Elysium
    Outer Wilds
    Murdered: Soul Suspect
    Case of the Golden Idol
    Lucifer Within Us

Oh, I don't mind gore or darker storytelling at all! I blame watching Law & Order: SVU at too young of an age probably.

Thank you all so much, this thread is already exceeding my wildest expectations! Put a ton of these on my Steam wishlist. I'm pregnant so I have a very quiet third trimester winter to look forward to, and these are going to be perfection!! Please keep them coming.

If anyone is looking for horror/mystery games, I've really enjoyed The Room series. And The House of Da Vinci is fun, but older, and definitely more PG.

LA Noire is hands down one of the best video games of all time and also fits your request

(This more so applies to AA and Dang) Also, one last thing, Don't google characters or go to wikis while you're playing. The very first result will more than likely be a spoiler, no matter which character you look up in the series.

Both games are covered on Reddit and GameFAQs though, so I'd try those sites first before looking on Google in case you get stuck in a game.

This is really great advice, thank you! I'll try and avoid the spoilers as much as I can...I love unravelling the story!
