I'd personally feel safe in a few months (2 or so) time. TNT is so incredibly busy with all kinds of things (useless PC reports) that if your shenanigans don't raise eyebrows immediately, they won't catch their eye later. That is, unless you talk about it a lot on the boards or try trading it all away at once in a very obvious way.

It depends on a lot of factors. If the account you moved items FROM, or moved items TO is reported, suspected, or otherwise frozen - your chances of getting caught in a chain freeze are significantly higher. If those previously mentioned accounts are quite safe and secure then the chances of you in turn getting caught are quite low. Nobody is around to report missing things - you’re in the clear. I don’t think TNT has enough manpower to monitor literally everything going on within the site.
If you’re transferring sums of pure, you have to be more careful there and transfer them carefully through the many different means the site allows. Through shop is the easiest, but most dangerous. Auctions require precise timing or a solid looking alibi if you’re doing junk auctions. Trades can be risky, but if you’re not moving anything huge, it can work a just done be that person who makes junk lot after junk lot that almost immediately disappears. People aren’t dumb and will check on it themselves after seeing so many of them.
The final factor is the social aspect. Is anybody stalking accounts and reporting pets being moved? Is anybody watching your sudden uptick in wealth and wondering where you’re getting these higher end items when your account doesn’t look like it should own them?
In the end, to my knowledge, 6 months is when I generally feel quite safe. Last I checked, their item logs don’t go back further than 6 months, so once you pass that time, you should be rather safe… provided none of the aforementioned points are playing a role in the process.
My general rule of thumb involves seeing how inactive an account is as the primary driver. I don’t mess with active stuff, too risky and not enough activity as it is anymore. Back in the day, securing actives was a fun challenge. Now a days, it’s just fun to find old accounts to see what kind of treasures were left behind in them.
What's my definition of success?
Creating something no one else can
Being brave enough to dream big
Grindin' when you're told to just quit
Giving more when you got nothin' left
n_t has nothing better to do than stalk the community and keep track of all the who, what, when, where and why's of everybody. TNT doesn't go around playing detective and aren't much of a threat on their own but it's n_t and co. that bring these things to their attention, so keep this in mind.
Patience is key!
TL;DR - Just mind your own business and don't flaunt your wealth around, especially if it's illegitimate and you'll be fine. Avoid boards and showing your wealth publicly for a while.

I follow a simple thumb rule, if no one's going to miss the the items you 'stole', no one is going to care, and you'll be safe. If it was from an old shell or an unknown unused account, chances are no one's going to report you and get you frozen. Just don't be out in the public eye with your ill-gotten wealth.
From digging around on those posts, it sounds more like TNT has to be forced to care by way of mass reports by him and his gang of supporters.
Of course, that doesn't mean it's a green light to be lax about the whole thing at all, especially if you have very valuable items.
