So from a knowledge compendium perspective, yeah it's kind of insane to consider the amount of information that could just go up in a puff of smoke. But I think I'm also just a pessimist as well in thinking that things will probably go back to normal... I mean personally I've never even heard of any of these third party apps and just use reddit as is (whether desktop or mobile) so I'm definitely not in the affected group of users. The kickback towards accessibility apps though is absurd and with how big their platform is, the prices they're gouging are so unjustified.

Also the fact that the founders are from my alma mater lmao... yea not surprised in the least.
Oh man I definitely recommend checking out

old.reddit.com + RES (reddit enhancement suite -- which can set old reddit as your default) + Adblock (which I'm sure you already have hahahha)
It's a LOT better than the cluttered new interface.

I know all the apps are shutting down on the 30th, but Apollo for iPhone was amazing and will be sorely missed

I use (you need an account to see links) Chrome widget for my job. It creates a personal library of saved webpages so I have folders of all sorts of different things my company puts out. I like the aesthetics and organization better than Wayback Machine, but it's not contributing to the greater good.

In theory, more forum-based websites sounds fantastic. I only prefer Reddit because of how heavily moderated it is. Remember old Reddit? I've seen far too many things I can't unsee and I wouldn't want to go back to that.
Oh that's a really neat tool! Thank you, I'll definitely check it out. Anything to at least let me keep webpages until the originals shut down so I can reupload whatever I want somewhere else eh?

Moderation is definitely always been a huge trouble on any platform, but that's also why I think having several websites that focus on their niches (aka what subreddits were, but standalone) would be better. The smaller a community, the easier to moderate the content thereof. (And the harder it is to accidentally stumble upon unsightly spaces...)
I mean after all, we jest about reddit mods all the time but for most subreddits they were the sole reason why reddit was bearable in the first place.

Wayback machine is nice but they'll remove stuff if someone's rich/powerful enough and wants it gone. (the biggest example I know of being (you need an account to see links) ) Not my ideal standard for content and information preservation

I knew something would do Reddit in someday. I am sad about it, I do get a lot of niche information there that I can't find anywhere else. But, if forums kinda come back that's cool too. We're in danger here with information. Wayback machine is getting pestered from big publishers from lawsuits so not even that is safe right now.

But how is only 2 days of protest going to help? Reddit knows when the blackout will stop so maybe they'll just ride the storm? This needs to be indefinite until the changes are rolled back. It'll be inconvenient but I can't believe they are doing this. A lot of disabled people use third party apps to be able to browse reddit. As a low vision person myself, this is a punch in the face. Of many. Disabled people never get a break. Seriously, WTF is Reddit thinking?

I'm also a fan of (you need an account to see links)! I think I switched to archiveweb.page because the archive today extension was getting wonky. it's great there are so many free/open source resources

That was my thoughts as well, reddit can just ride it out for two days and then its business as usual. It was really exciting to see so many people come together and stand up against some corporate crap, and i wish that the resolve was there to keep going. Ride it out as long as it takes and actually have reddit sweat a little bit. Two days is enough to catch some side eye and then thats that. :c

It's because sadly reddit people are usually very very addicted to reddit and 2 days is probably all they could handle without ripping their skin off. (No offense to the normal reddit users but you absolutely know the ones I'm talking about because it's usually the moderation teams) they literally don't have the will to last as long as it takes imo.

Well that's the rub with most of the protests being done. Convenience or actual change? Unfortunately you can really only pick one. Hopefully more people will learn this, if there's any good that can happen from the blackout it's that.

I use it to talk about console modding, emulation, and retro games and related stuff but I don't really use it for much else. I didn't even know it had porn on it.
