    Foraging for exotics

Here are some old pictures from last year, its almost that time again this year! Does anyone on the forum forage? I know you can find pheasant backs, hen of the woods, chicken of the woods even oysters. These are morel mushrooms im curious if anyone goes out there and does this too?

Yes! I used to go all the time when I was a kid with my dad. We would go and find hundreds and invite everybody over for a mushroom fry!

Where on earth do you go up state to get these? Most of the woods I'm around now are protected, or I don't know the land owners to ask for permission. I'm so jelly.

    Thank you Hellraid <3

Foraging has always sounded like a dream to me! I'm in a big city and there aren't any places I can really go to pick my own, but I sure would love to!

I do see a lot of fancy mushrooms at the market and most of the time they're crazy expensive.

@(you need an account to see links) most of the time we forage in forest preserves, rangers by me typically dont care. theyre too busy/ doesnt harm anything. I suggest finding your local forest preserve and go hunting as soon as their gate is open!
@(you need an account to see links) there has to be a small woods section by you? these grow everywhere! you can even search a morel map in your area on google. <3 happy hunting!

Do you bring a book with you or some sort of reference materials to tell you which ones are dangerous to consume?
I've never gone, but it sounds like it could be fun!

BEWARE OF FALSE MORELS OR YOU MAY GET SICK OR DIE. TRUE MORELS WILL BE HOLLOW INSIDE!

TO ANYONE READING THIS THREAD. DO NOT FORAGE MUSHROOMS UNLESS YOU KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

    MYCOLOGY IS SERIOUS BUSINESS.

I study mycology for funsies on a casual level, I still barely know what I am doing, and don't eat my finds yet. Morels are different and the only exception to that for me because I've been hunting those specifically since childhood. They're the best starter example and I think it's cool you provided that example.

@(you need an account to see links) I'm in LA so I think anywhere would be quite a drive (I'd also need the free time to do so).

If I wasn't in a apartment I'd want to grow my own as well since I've seen some youtube vids and it looks rather easy. I've seen some mushrooms at the park, and one was I think a puffball. It was getting bigger every visit and it was a larger than a grapefruit before some people decided to smash it to pieces. Seen some fairy circles there too.
