    Appreciation of the Fallen

I'd like to hear a story from anyone who's willing to share about someone/something who/that you've loved dearly that has passed from your life. It can be anything, a grandparent, a parent, a sibling, a child, a pet, even an item that was so dear to you that is no longer with you.

After the recent passing of my dad, I've realized that after the initial mourning phase, I get hit regularly with emotions that get triggered by the smallest things. So I'd love for there to be an outlet here for anyone else who is going through the same thing wanting to share.

It'd be nice to hear all your stories too.

    Let me start..

I'm deeply sorry for your loss, my condolences and prayers to you and your family!
I personally couldn't imagine how you could be feeling right now.

The story of one of my loved one who I've lost is my grandma.

Before I say anymore, I'd like to end with this; spend as much time possible with those who you love. Check up on your loves ones, take a moment and appreciate them now while they're around.
If you haven't spent much time with them, only when they're actually gone you'll realize how much they mean to you.

Thank you for sharing about your dad, and for the thread as well. I think by talking about the people we've lost, we hold onto them a little longer. This part of your post particularly struck me and reminded me of my own story:

I hope you don't mind me sharing on this thread even though our situations are different. Grief is just so hard.

This is a really lovely thread. I've had a few losses right in a row lately, but I think the two that have hit the hardest were my long-term partner's grandmother and one of my college professors.

Grief sucks, and it doesn't ever stop, you just get used to carrying it around. I like to think that sharing happy stories makes it feel a little lighter, though, because you can't really be so sad when you're remembering being so happy.

In 2017, my daughter was born at 5:30pm on May 30, and she suffered a traumatic brain injury. She passed away 18 days later. My happiest memory of her was every time my hubby walked into the room and started talking, she would try to follow his voice with her head and smiled every time she heard daddy. I didn't have long with her, but she was beautiful! But it is also the reason I hate when people tell me "Happy Mother's Day" because, for me, all three of my children passed away so I do not consider myself a mom. But mostly, I do not understand why I should be happy to be a mother to children who have passed away. I know it is a touchy subject for a lot of people but that is my views!
