I'm in the medical field, and currently regretting my life choices

I had a very innocent curiosity about how the body worked, and I found it interesting enough to pursue. They said it was hard, and they said it'll be worth it. They did not mention the shit in between those two states.

I'm going for my PMP this month! In the medical device industry as a product development engineer. We work mainly on implantables like pacemakers or neurostimulators or drug delivery devices. I'm trying to move into project engineering /management soon though!

Oh yay medical workers unite! We should have had this during the peak of COVID and made a little healthcare/medical worker support group lol.

Hahaha our OTs do self-feeding as part of ADLs but SLPs do all things swallowing All swallow studies go to us! We are really lucky to have good co-treatment opportunities though. We have a great rapport with each other's departments (and this has been the case at multiple hospitals i've worked at, really) and defer to each other/request referrals often.

The neonatal ICU world, on the other hand, definitely sees a lot more territory fights though...

I used to work at a site with a part time SLP. And there was only one for the whole site. So the OTs would do the bedside swallow assessments then would consult SLP for VFSS. One OT would be the feeding and swallowing lead and also do VFSS's with the SLP> I got to do that and it was so neat.

No I changed sites aaaaand have lost all my Dysphagia training as OT's don't touch it. Just adapting self feeding etc.

That actually sounds like such a cool gig and multidisciplinary opportunity though, too
*eyes our very poor staffing and abundance of bedside swallow consults*

There are many days I kinda wish I went the OT or PT route, though - I don't at all regret my super cool professional experiences and I love my job itself, but there are some very...outdated (and not evidence-based) practices out there. I adore the skill of what we do and but I do, at times, envy a lot of the respect from the medical team that you guys have, especially in the hospital/ICU settings!

I applied for a PhD (awaiting admission decisions!) because I want to help with those things, especially evidence-based practice, specifically.

Also shoutout to all the fellow healthcare workers on this thread of all disciplines It's not easy, but what you do is so important!

Apologies for the late reply. (It's mostly because I don't know my way through a forum that is not the Neoboards, and I'm sorry about that )

I got the "best" of both worlds of the pandemic - my last year of clinical training and my first year of working formally on the field fell right into the space of the Pandemic. It might have affected my mental health a lot. But it's great (horrible but great) to know I'm not alone.
