Hello all! I started logging how many species are entered in each category to hopefully make it easier to rack up some trophies for my pets.
Lots of my pets have names I love, but I'm not super attached to their species or color so I wanted to choose something else for a bit while I rack up bc trophies on that pets lookup. And since I want to make lazy art I figured I'd try to game the contest by picking species that are unpopular in the bc (because ofc if there's three or fewer species everyone automatically gets a trophy). Thus, the tracking! I also kind of love this type of activity. So I thought I'd share with y'all since it's sort of interesting even if you're not a bc regular.
I'll come back and update [s]each[/s] every other week as I add new data. Let me know if you can think of a better way to visualize it, there's so many species I couldn't do a graph with all of them but I could easily do like all species with a median or average < 3 or something. It'll be interesting to see trends as I accumulate more data.
I calculated what percent of total entries each species makes up,
then found the difference between that and what percent of all pets created each species is (from here).
Basically this is the disparity between how popular a pet is in neopia, vs in the bc. **
So a negative number means they're underrepresented in the bc given how popular they are as a species,
and a positive number means they're overrepresented in the bc.
this is so great omg, I love Neopets data collection. Thank you for this! I'd love to see a graph with just the weekly average by species.
regarding the image duplicating - I'm doing this off memory so it may be slightly different, but if you go to Edit Post and the Advanced function, there should be a view called Manage Attachments. Click into that and it'll open up a pop up that should show your visualization. Hit X to delete it, then save it when it prompts you to. That should remove the embedded attachment at the bottom of your post.

Ahhh amazing thank you so much I think that fixed it!
re: weekly averages per species, do you want it just as a bar graph like this?
Nice idea!! I was always curious about the BC and the mechanics behind.
It was a bit difficult for me to understand chart at beginning but I understand there are many species. I had no idea Kacheeks are top, maybe because I'm not a fan of them xD
I was expecting to see Draiks be way more popular, not Kacheek.
Kacheek the most popular because of how flexible they are with customization?
Based on (you need an account to see links) it looks like it might be because they're the second most popular species, combined with customizability probably? Maybe I'll try to calculate popularity of entering in bc corrected for species popularity
Yesss that's exactly the sort of chart I was hoping for, thank you!
the fact that more kikos than gelerts have been entering the BC on average lately is crazy.

Ok here's something interesting.

Oh, this is super interesting thank you for sharing! I particularly am liking the representation one. I was glad to see the numbers increase while I was looking, so it's still getting updated, though I do now really wish there was something like this that accounted for morphs/zaps, would be really interesting to compare those two!
