not sure if you guys have kept up with the neopets clones out there nowadays, but there is shit hitting the fan at neopets classic.

Hey all! Some of y’all have definitely heard the rumblings of issues regarding racism/antisemitism/other forms of descrimination with the neoclone site neopetsclassic.com

I’ve posted about it a few times and I always get anons asking me to go into detail about what happened or to “prove” my claims. I never respond bc 1. I find it incredibly weird to put the onus of proof on someone who has been directly affected by that violence and 2. It’s impossible to tell who is actually concerned vs. who just wants to see the drama.

That being said my lovely friend has compiled her experiences with the site and the admin team and asked me to share them on Tumblr. I apologize it’s all screenshots atm, but I will try to get the actual text for folx who rely on screen readers!

For now I’ll say don’t support neopets classic (npc) don’t support people who are willingly apart of this racist team. I know some of them are on tumblr, one recently deleted but I’m sure he’ll be back at some point. If you’re looking for a good neo-clone I recommend Moderneopets, Virtupets, or Grundo’s Cafe all of which have very unique approaches to the classic neo experience and all of which have cut ties with the owner of Neopets Classic because he’s a dick.

I left Neopets Classic when the pound got flooded with pets with hate crime names. Sadly I am not surprised to read any of that update, and I am glad I never became a part of that community.

ETA - I am confused about the Minstrel pet being a problem though. I thought a minstrel was a medieval court musician or something? I'm on my work computer so I don't want to google it if it something racist.

Wow, that sounds like a shit show. To think I was actually upset that I never have been able to register an account there but now after seeing this, I'm ok with not being in that community. Yikes.

there are more worthwhile neopets clones to put your time into that aren't... complete assholes among other things lol.

basically NPC was the community's escape from Jumpstart/TNT... and now they've turned into that themselves. it's really sad.

You are correct, that is one definition but the other is "a member of a band of entertainers, typically white actors with blackened faces, who performed in a type of stage entertainment prevalent in the US in the 19th and early 20th centuries"

oh yep that'll do it e_e thank you for clarifying.

I'd like to think the person with that pet was only aware of the first definition and not deliberately celebrating racism but considering the general culture at NPC, it probably was entirely deliberate. What the hell is wrong with people
