How can I practice my battle?
Is there a way to fight against the machine or it always needs to be versus another player?
And if so, is there a way to battle some random user or do I always need to fight versus a selected one?

As far as I know, you can only battle against other live players. When you hit battle, it'll pair you with a random user that's in the Format as you, so in this case, Gen 8 OU.

You can also spectate battles in the same format as well. There should be a function to rewind the battle back if you miss any moves they used, or to see the setup they used.

Hey all! I'm super excited to be co-hosting this event and I thank GWN for the opportunity to do so! As stated, you can find a basic rundown of Pokemon battling and some strategies in my signature below. I am also happy to explain/answer any questions anyone may have!

Accuracy is fine to raise. By evasion moves, it means anything that is a move that specifically raises that one stat. For example, you would not be able to have a Pokemon with the move Double Team:



However, that isn't to say you cannot raise your evasiveness at all. You could have a Pokemon with the ability Contrary which:



So, if you use a move like Hammer Arm, which lowers your speed after use, it'll instead raise your Pokemon's speed stat. That goes for any stat as well.

I will add though, that using status moves is risky in general because you do leave yourself potentially open to an attack if your opponent isn't either switching Pokemon or setting up themselves. So, use them wisely!

What I mean is, mirror shot for example has a low chance to lower accuracy, would this be forbidden?

Oh, sorry I misunderstood! Mirror Shot is fine to use.

A quick tip: the Showdown forums have a thread with recommended teams by rules (so in our case, gen 8 OU). Last time I based my team on one of these recommendations and tweaked it a bit according to our rules, @(you need an account to see links) 's guide and the experience I gained while practicing.

Been a very long time since I’ve done any sort of competitive battling. It will be interesting to see how much the Meta has changed when I start looking into it more in depth.

Just a quick reminder as I have seen some members say they've made teams and such however they are yet to sign up on Challonge. If you are not signed up on the event on Challonge you will not be able to participate in the event as you not be assigned an opponent.
