It's Summertime!

It's finally summer time!
(at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere!)



So, I want to know...

What is your favourite thing to do in the summer? Are you a total beach bum? Lake lifer? How do you like to stay cool? Popsicles, ice cream, good old fashioned AC?
Maybe you have a favourite memory from the summer time? I wanna hear about it!

I will go first!

As a kid, we would always go to the outdoor waterslide park in June at the end of the school year. We would stay all day until we were EXHAUSTED. There was this one slide that was super scary to me, it was really fast, had big drops and was in pitch black. I remember the year I turned 12, I was FINALLY brave enough to go down it by myself. So I did, and it was a blast! Once it was time to leave, we'd get a twist (chocolate and vanilla swirled) soft serve ice cream cone.

Well when I'm at home office like now I use the fan on morning/afternoon and on the evening I'm desesperately giving up running to the AC haha.

Thank god this past weekend my husband and I finally did some needed cleaning to our AC, now air is stronger and colder which means I'm burrowing myself into blankets

(I still wake up to turn it off because I'm that weak, I'm sorry...)

tbh it seems like summer is when everything especially goes to shit so I never really look forward. And then there's sadness when it leaves.

It was my favorite as a kid but as an adult it honestly kinda sucks because it marks the middle of the year and the downward slide into fall and therefore winter.

Landlord is considering raising our rent if we continue to use the AC during this heat. I already keep things at 75 degrees F, so it's not like I'm keeping the house at arctic temperatures. The buildings in this area are made to hold in heat due to how cold winter tends to get here, and all of the trees that would have provided shade were cut down this past spring, which has only made things worse. I'm half tempted to move, but this also might just be just what he wants since rent can't be risen more than a set amount every year as long as someone is occupying the unit.

I'm probably going to have to get accustomed to cold showers to keep cool if this is how he is going to play.

I'm really really not even sure. Definitely seems like something that wouldn't be, even if he didn't actually do the normal rent increase to account for inflation this year.

Probably gonna have to go digging through rental laws for my area and raise a stink. Wouldn't be the first time I've had to chew out a scumbag.

Well that's rough, I imagine you both share same electric bill which can complicate things, or do you pay for services as a separated stuff from normal rent?

Still have you tried to talk to them? (I suppose you had for what you're saying). It seems like they don't want to get an electric extra charge (at least in Mexico the more you spend the more they increase fee). 75 Degrees sounds a good average.

The electric is included in the rent, but he's never used the usage of AC as an excuse to try and raise things which is concerning. Even a few years ago when it was even warmer than this summer has been.

Oh I see. Besides the research law you're gonna make (sorry I don't know about that area unfortunately) you can also use the contract you both made for the rent, so it's specified your bill it's included and you can protect yourself too.

That is so fucked up, I'm so sorry to hear that I'm guessing there is nothing you could legally do against him unless there is like a landlord QC organization you could report him to or something? 😟 People are so fucking despicable when it comes to just padding their wallets.
