Do You Have a Comfort Game? What Is It?

Do any of y'all have a comfort game? Like, a game that you always fall back on to help you get through tough times?

You'd think that mine would be any sort of Pokemon game, but you're wrong! It's actually the original Mass Effect trilogy

The sheer amount of hours I've put into those games is kinda embarrassing LOL! Just knowing what's going to happen, and all the different romance options, just really helps me center myself :3

This is an amazing question! I definitely do - Super Mario World for the SNES (I play using my SNES Classic). When I am having a rough day I'll 100% it and it always makes me feel better.

I'm not much of a gamer, but this one makes me really happy.

I've never played Mass Effect, but I have an alien phobia so I don't think I could try. :c

The phobia makes it completely understandable. Never play a game if it makes you feel icky!

I LOVE Super Mario World! I have fond childhood memories playing it on my SNES, begging my mom for help on levels I couldn't beat myself LOL

Spyro 2 Gateway to Glimmer/Ripto's Rage (remake and original) - so easy to get lost in, I don't really have to think so much when I play it. OST and world deigns are beautiful. The game brings me great nostalgia! Reminds me of cold rainy days, where I'd put a lot of hours into finding the last and final gem xD

Spider-Man PS4/PS5 - I get lost in the swinging. It's like I almost feel like I'm actually Spider-Man. I usually boot this game up if I want to clear my mind.

The Binding of Isaac is a big one for me, since it has great replay value/a good variety of mods and my brother and I can play together!

Skyrim is also a big comfort game to me (I'm replaying this one rn!) as is Team Fortress 2 (whenever I sometimes run into fun/friendly people), Left 4 Dead 2, Hypnospace Outlaw, Bloons TD 6, Katamari Damacy, and VA-11 Hall-A.

I tend to go for Minecraft as a 'comfort' game. It's the kind of game where you can do whatever you like however big or little you wish to create. It allows you to just slip into your own little corner of existence and away from the real world. I find myself always going back to it, no matter how long between times playing, it seems to have that timeless ability to recapture you every time.

I like to play Spiritfarer, it's a "cozy" game where you shuttle spirits to the afterlife whilst traveling around on a boat that you build on over time. It's sad, but it helps me make sense of the hard things in life.

I also like playing the Spyro trilogy; the gameplay and art definitely make me feel at ease. And of course, the gen 3 Pokemon games.

I will obsessively play it for like, a month, and then drop it for god knows how long, and then I binge it again and repeat LOL

    Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life.

It's not the best game in the series, but to me it's one of the more calming ones. I played it as a kid during some less than stellar times and it managed to help me pull through mentally. The smaller town and amount of NPCs helped quite a lot with forming bonds, and overall the gameplay is laid back and relaxing, which made for an experience that was extremely therapeutic.

Also the cows in that game are the cutest in the series. Don't @ me.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 for me. I play a "short game" for nostalgia every year and end up spending hours on it
