I attribute a lot of my interest in CS to Neopets. I started playing when I was 8 and now nearly two decades later after coding many many scripts and petpages, I'm working as a software developer. A Meta recruiter reached out to me a few weeks ago and now I have a screening interview scheduled. I'm feeling kind of ambivalent.
The pros of working at a company like that would be the high pay and being surrounded by a bunch of really talented people doing interesting work. The cons could be a scary work-life balance, a more cut-throat environment, and the shady ethics of big tech.
Am I being ridiculous to have hesitations? Would be interested to hear if anyone has any thoughts.

i say go for it. they're gonna be shady whether you're working there or not. plus working for them would probably open up more opportunities for you in the long run i'd assume.
I use FB and IG so I think I'd be hypocritical not to want to work for them for ethical reasons, really. That said, the start up I work for has been removing all meta ties and it's something we all feel good about.
I would have more concerns about the work/life balance, however if it pays well and would be good experience I might think about working there for a year or two with a view to moving on to something more enriching both in terms of work and QOL once I'd sucked them dry of career enhancing experience.

(please don't quote this post, even though I didn't namedrop anything and the fact that these are huge companies impossible to narrow down, it still feels very persona-identity-y, so might delete later)
