As a male, I've never had to use wrist support or a brace of any kind - I've been lifting at a gym for 12 years. They do get sore every once in a while and the awkward feeling can last a couple days at most, but I think this is related to being on my computer a lot. I'd say try working out without any support to start and feel it out yourself. It's also best to never start with heavy weights. Proper form is more important. @(you need an account to see links)
