    music game: recommended for you

i thought it would be fun to go down the rabbit hole of what youtube's algorithms do for us and maybe find some new fun music to listen to!

    1. open a private browsing tab
    2. find a song you like on youtube
    3. click on a recommended song in the sidebar (that you've never heard before)
    4. link to the original song, but post the video for the song you found through it
    5. tell us what you think! would you listen again? add it to your playlist?

(you need an account to see links)

    found song:

thoughts: i don't hate it! feels like a song i'll remember every so often and go listen to, but i'm not sure i'd playlist it. i primarily listen to music while i'm driving; feels like a good song to listen to on the open road at night.

oooh, this is a fun idea!

So I chose (you need an account to see links) and one of the recommended ones was this video that was only posted a day ago and honestly I disliked it so much I turned it off and normally I will listen to songs to the end even if I'm not into it to get a sense of auditory closure.

The Jungle Giants - Something Got Between Us

    Next one I didn't recognize:

The Dead South - In Hell I'll Be In Good Company

Not what I would normally listen to, but so far very catchy.

    This is an interesting idea.

Song I chose was one of my daughter's sleeping songs, Let me hear

Recommended a BABYMETAL song. My brother in-law talks about them a lot but never actually listened to any of their songs, it wasn't bad

Interestingly, out of all the recommendations the only english song that came us was Linkin Park - Numb kekeke

Such a nifty idea! I will admit I am terrible about branching out and finding new music. Decided to not go for the obvious kpop/AT40 since chances are I wouldn't see anything in the sidebar that I wasn't familiar with. :p So I decided to choose my fav song from my fav jrock band (a genre I woefully don't listen to enough of) and decided to click on the 2nd song in the sidebar. (First one was just another song from the same band)

(you need an account to see links)

    Recommended song:

Sadly not jrock but instead some quirky upbeat j-pop-rock! It was fun to listen to (although I had no idea what it was about or what was going on) and the female drummer was quite cool. Reminded me a lot of Unison Square Garden I guess because they both have a slightly jazzy sound? I definitely don't hate it but no strong urges to dive into their full discography either.
