I love musicals so here are some of my favourites:

    The sad
    RENT
    West Side Story
Next to Normal. This one deals with mental illness in a really realistic way, the songs are very cool.
    Aida
    Repo the Genetic Opera

    The bonkers/funny
Something Rotten. I have never laughed so hard during a musical.
The Book of Mormon. I watched it expecting something....less funny? And couldn't stop laughing.
    Little Shop of Horrors

Oh God I read through this thread and my childhood memories of watching (with my mom) Evita (the movie). I might have been too young to watch it because the ending haunted me for a long time and I have never seen it again, though I still remember exactly when Eva gets ill and dies. It is a gorgeous musical though. I also love Jesus Christ Superstar (again movie-version) watched that one with my mom too as a kid. I watch it if it's on around Easter. Little Shop of Horrors is great too, though I'm still not sure which ending I like better

I have a very unpopular opinion of loving this musical episode from a show called Todd and the Book of Pure Evil! It's an episode in season 2 of the show called 2 Girls, 1 Tongue. I know it sounds odd but honestly the whole show is odd and probably one reason I love it so much. It isn't like the best production with special effects and whatnot but I think the songs are golden! I have memorized every song and absolutely love every single one lol I recommend watching it you want a good laugh and a fun musical.

I'm not religious but I watched a live performance of Jesus Christ Superstar a few years ago and it blew my socks off! I'm not usually into musicals but the music was so damn good (and the actors/singers were fantastic). I still listen to the soundtrack often, usually the movie one because it's easily available online.

I like Heaven on Their Minds but Hosanna, What's the Buzz, and Everything's Alright are also quite great.

    How has no one said

    Phantom of the Oprah!

I agree Cats is pretty iconic but Phantom of the Oprah is a legend.

    Oh I love this thread..

My favorite is probably Les Mis but really all for Les Amis lol

Other than that.. Some others I quite like are -
Cats (both 2019 and stage have good points imho)
    Beetlejuice
    Be More Chill
    Heathers
    Repo! The Genetic Opera
    Spongebob

Also speaking of Phantom, have y'all seen Love Never Dies? If you haven't, I really implore you. It's... a lot, it's so much, it's out of control and honestly hilarious at parts. Don't want to spoil it. but it's a direct sequel haha

Yes Les Mis also an amazing classic up there with Phantom and Cats and then we so should not forget about those Disney classics. Sound of Music and Merry Popiins

Quite a few Rent and Cats fans! I really like Lindsay Ellis’ videos on those.

I gotta say Hamilton is in my #1 spot. As a kid I went to a school named after Hamilton, and as such we learned his story. Then to see it come out as a hip hop musical? I know every word to every song lol. Just something about aggresively pursuing your goals that really helped me as an undergrad.

While that’s my fave, I think the best musical I know is Hair. I did not enjoy the minions version of the main song...

I literally only know one song from Spring Awakening but I love it - “Mama Who Bore Me (Reprise)”

Oh man, the original Repo! will always have a soft spot in my heart. Also, this might be a lame one, but Phantom of the Opera has really never fallen out with me. It really is a classic. u_u

(Also, if cartoons count... Phineas and Ferb. They're cute and short, and are usually awesome bops. I started watching when my brother was little and he loved it. Now as a teenager he's annoyed by it, and I'm still here. Sigh.)

@(you need an account to see links) I just saw you posted the hair song. Almost two decades ago, I saw this song in an AMV and STILL have it because of that. I never really thought to look it up, and just kinda took it for granted as a silly one off song. Thank you for making me think about it again and actually seeing the original, haha.
