Has anyone ever had laser tattoo removal?

    Hey everyone.

Over the past few weeks I have been debating on getting a number of tattoos removed due to some bad life decisions. I've found a place and have already booked a consultation to discuss removal.

Anyone here that's done this, what was the process like for you? I basically have two half sleeves and plan to remove most of them as much as I can. Mine are all blackwork tattoos, apparently black ink is a lot more easier to remove than colour. I know it's gonna be a long journey, but somehow I know I'll feel a lot more happier with my self by going through this.

I'm expecting this to hurt more than getting the tattoo its self.

I wish I could go back to my early 20's and tell me self not to do it!

I haven’t but my mother has.

She said it was rather painful, and I believe she had to do 2-3 sessions. She wanted to do removal for it to be easier to do a cover up. IMO she could have just done the coverup without removal but it was her choice.
I believe it was also rather expensive, and her tattoo wasn’t very large. I’d estimate approx 2.5 inches by 2 inches?

Another friend I have had a small tattoo removed as well. She said the same thing, it was a lot more painful than the tattoo itself. But you can still see her tattoo a bit and it was just black thick lettering. It also was rather small. I’d say about 5 inches in length, and approx 1 inch thick? She has not covered it with another tattoo at this time. Not sure if she will.

I guess it really depends on how much work you have to remove and if you plan to cover it or not. It definitely is a process and can be $$$. But it can also be a great thing from people I’ve seen do it on Instagram.

Do you mind if I ask why you’re removing the tattoos? If you aren’t comfortable sharing, please do not feel obligated to tell!

I have a regrettable tattoo that I've wanted to laser off rather than cover because I like the idea of removing it from myself as much as possible, rather than just obfuscating it, but I haven't really looked that closely into it. It's something I plan on doing once I have a steadier job, I think.

I've heard people say the pain is sorta like a rubber band being snapped on the skin :o How did your mum and your friend find the whole experience of the removal? I'm not looking forward to aftercare but i know I've gotta endure this xD

Of course! There are some that I'm just not happy with, they weren't executed the way I had them planned out, so they are kinda all over the place. I have a snake with peonies flowers on my right shoulder that just didn't come out as I wanted it to, the leaves around the peonies flowers are blocks of black ink which I personally do not like. They are pretty big pieces too. I feel like I've sorta grown out of them, and that I no longer am the same person as I was when I had them done. I plan to keep this thread posted on my removal journey though, it might help anyone out there that is in the same situation as me

Totally get the feeling, I've finally convinced my self to go ahead with it, even if they are around 95%-98% gone I'd be pretty happy with that out come

Good luck! I’ve been eyeing it off for years to get rid of my first tattoo I got at 17 right on my chest plate UGH. So far I’ve not been able to face it being both more expensive and painful than the original tattoo. Please keep us updated!

    Thank you!

My next appointment is in mid July, so I'll keep this thread updated

One thing I noticed after the patch test is that the ink started to oxidise around where the tattoo would be so it's sorta a brownish pigment on the lasered site, the fade is gradual but I've noticed it. my skin also started to flake *sorry a little tmi!* blistering was very minimal, probably because the laser was on a lower setting.

If anyone is curious about the laser I'm getting treated with it's Picoway! My technician said it works well with black ink

Good! Mine is a FLAME and I think I remember hearing red and orange are those “stick around” colours unfortunately. Please continue even with the TMI, I’ll be keeping tabs on your progress as this is pretty high on my “want to do” list.

I've heard that colour can be a little harder to remove, but I've seen ones were they do fade off after multiple sessions of laser! I'll keep the thread going after each session I get, hopefully it can help you out

I really want to get a tattoo removed, it’s only a couple of years old. But like you were saying about some of your tattoos, it’s not executed the way I wanted it to be. My tattoo is really big and dark and it’s on my thigh. The concept is nice but otherwise it’s a bad tattoo and it really embarrasses me It really sticks out since it’s the only one on my leg. Your positivity about your future sessions gives me hopes! Keep us updated! Do you know which laser you’ll be using? Are you removing colored or black ink (or both)? I’ve been doing light research here and there so I’m very curious to hear more about your consultation!
