Are you tuning into the solar eclipse?

Be sure to protect your eyes! I don't think regular sunglasses are safe enough either!

    Some info:

A total solar eclipse will take place on Monday, April 8, 2024, visible across North America and dubbed the Great North American Eclipse by some media. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. - (you need an account to see links)

    Date: Monday, April 8, 2024

    Coordinates: 25°18′N 104°06′W / 25.3°N 104.1°W

    Greatest eclipse: 18:18:29

    Location: Nazas, Mexico

    Magnitude: 1.0566

Max. width of band: 198 km (123 mi)
Are you going to follow the eclipse as it happens tomorrow?

I'll be stuck inside working sadly. And where we are we will only get I think 20% coverage for the eclipse. From what I saw @(you need an account to see links) you're in prime real estate for I think the full thing which is so cool! I may try and sneak out at lunch time.and maybe catch a small bit of it. I know the school around here are delaying lunch time recesses to make sure the kids aren't staring at the sun hahah

As a huge nerd of anything space related - yes!!

If anyone else wants to view it, make sure to protect your eyes. Not all solar eclipse 'glasses' are safe!

You can safely check you're solar viewers yourself this way:

    1. Put eclipse viewers on and look towards a shaded light indoors. It should not be visible. If you can see a shaded lamp - they are not safe.
    2. Now look at an unshaded bulb - it should be quite dim. There's a good chance you will see the light from a 60W equivalent light bulb, bit it should not be bright with the eclipse shades on.
    3. Now go outside. Don't look towards the Sun yet, but put the eclipse shades back on. Can you see other objects besides the Sun? Clouds? Other things? If so, the viewers are not safe.
    4. Lastly, if the view is still dark, the shades might be better than really bad ones, but still not good enough. So quickly look towards the Sun, about a second or two. Is there a bright halo around it? If so, the eclipse viewers are not safe. Is the Sun dim, with little or no halo at all? Congratulations! The viewers are safe for all partial phases of the eclipse on Monday.

Oh, and in the photo posted here? The bottom pair are unsafe. And the top ones are "iffy" without being able to look at the Sun to be sure about the halo.

I’m planning to check it out, it’s a pretty unique opportunity for sure. I have some friends traveling just to see it - of course he works at NASA so he’s a lot more into it haha

Ive been seeing all these conspiracies about the eclipse too that kind of make me laugh. In my head “the moon is passing in front of the sun” isn’t enough for these wild theories!

i live *just* on the edge of the path of totality!! so cool, never thought one'd happen over my area. i'd travel a couple miles to be in 100% range but there's been a lot of buzz about unheard of levels of tourism in the area and i think i'm good settling for 99.30% or whatever lmfao

my honey smartly picked up some glasses for us weeks ago and they pass the test!

Yo, if you can get to 100% you should go for it. I've never experienced totality before, but I hear it's unreal and akin to a spiritual experience.

Ahhh I agree with kitty. If it isn't too much trouble I think you should for sure go and check out the eclipse in the 100% totality path!

I live across the country so I won't see anything but jealous of those who will!

@(you need an account to see links) if it's not too far of a trip you should 100% do it! Such a cool thing to experience it in totality! Hopefully.you have clear skies for it!

I would love to but I'm in one of those zones where it might dip into the 90% coverage but according to my friend the difference between 100% coverage and anything not is literally night and day, so @(you need an account to see links) if you can safely venture out +1 for doing so!!
