I've been reading this thread every day but I still can't remember mine really... I was 12 or so. Probably a cool mutant neopet, but I got 2 of those very early. I did want to have some cool weapons and I was very envious of crowprincess when she got the Free Jhuidah avatar.

I wanted a maraquan draik and a faerie kougra. I gave up on the kougra after conversion (I hate their wings so much!!) but got the maraquan draik after years!
I was obsessed with baby and faerie Neopets - notably Cybunny, Kacheek, and Poogle (before the redesign).
I always wanted a Darigan Draik. when I was younger I had an obsession with drawing dragons, so anything remotely looking like a dragon had me interested.

the thing back in the day was to have painted pets. i was so thrilled when i got my first baby draik...i bought a transmogrification potion because it was the cheapest way to get a draik, then boochi got him and it was like neopets read my mind...the first thing i did when i got back on neopets after a 10 year hiatus was to get a baby draik again. it was a lot easier and a lot cheaper than before.
